From the inventor of guitar strings

Strings made by Ernie Ball - the proverbial icing on the cake for a powerful sound with plenty of sustain. Since the early 1960s, the US company has been making strings for almost every stringed instrument. This vast wealth of experience is clearly demonstrated in every product, and it is not by chance that Ernie Ball remains one of the market's leading manufacturers to this day. The product range has expanded immensely over the course of several decades and now includes many accessories such as effect pedals, cables, straps, and high-quality picks alongside the company's extensive selection of strings. However, Ernie Ball's core business is and remains the production of all manner of strings, which set standards in terms of sound, tuning stability, and durability - and the company is still based in Indio, California.

Powerful sound and easy playability

The 2624 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom string set is designed specifically for guitarists with eight-string instruments who value excellent low-end definition and a high level of playing comfort. The wound strings feature a hexagonal steel core beneath nickel-plated steel windings. In contrast, the plain strings are made from a specially hardened and tin-plated high-tensile carbon steel. With gauges of .009, .011, .016, .024, .034, .046, .064, and .080, the 2624 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings offer not only a comfortable playing feel but also a rich and powerful tone, which of course makes them particularly suitable for Metal.

The perfect choice for eight-string guitars

Thanks to its long playing life, loud and well-balanced sound, precise intonation, and high tuning stability from the moment the strings are put on, the Ernie Ball 2624 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom string set is recommended as a reliable companion for eight-string players who want a rich sound with a comfortable playing feel and place great value on clean definition, especially in the low end. The combined power of over 50 years of experience in string development at Ernie Ball also makes the Ernie Ball 2624 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings the first choice for eight-string electric guitars - and at a very fair price.

About Ernie Ball

The Ernie Ball company was named after its founder and has its headquarters in San Luis Opisbo, California. Being a guitarist himself, Ernie Ball knew their needs very well. A major problem for him in the 1950s and 1960s was the lack of high-quality guitar and bass strings. In 1962, Ernie Ball invented the “Slinky”, a very flexible and therefore much more comfortable string, which also sounded better and was more durable. He specifically brought individual string gauges onto the market for a young clientele and touring musicians. The company’s success was unstoppable, and today Ernie Ball is the world's largest manufacturer of guitar and bass strings. Over the years, the range has expanded and now includes accessories such as cables, picks, straps, etc. Ernie Ball is also known in connection with the instrument manufacturer Music Man, which the company bought in 1984, but which continues to operate as an independent brand.

Perfect for Metal

The 2624 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom string set offers a balanced and full sound that brings out the best in your eight-string electric guitar. The strings' precise intonation means that chords, riffs, and solos will always sound bright and clear anywhere on the fingerboard. In addition, these strings deliver excellent tuning stability as well as a direct tonal response, something that is crucial especially for the low strings, such as when playing precise riffs. Whether you are playing powerful high-gain riffs, crystal-clear clean parts, or expressive solos, the Ernie Ball 2624 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings offer the perfect balance between playing feel, durability, and a full sound.

Exact description, it does what it's supposed to.

Bought it for my Ibanez 8 String. I must say that in the beginning it was a bit daunting to play a .80 gauge string on a guitar. But with time I got used to it. Great for metal or djent. Very clear sounding.

I know the "budget" Ernie Ball strings can be hit and miss but as I bought a 8 string I went with a familiar name and the gauge was around what I was after too.

I've seen this in the past so its not an exclusive issue with Thomann for sure, but getting the new strings out of the pack parts of the string have already weathered (whether (ha) that is the right term or not I'm not 100%) but parts of the string (lighter) have rust marks on them new out of the packet.

RN
Not a good suit for 30" scale guitars with string through body
Rui Nunes 24.09.2021
I've bought this set for a Subzero Rouge IV (30" scale) and the .80 gauge didn't even reach the tuning machine. I suspect that the lack of length is due to this guitar being a string through body on the bridge (which reduces the amount of string length available). If you're using a Squier Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster (30" as well) I believe you'll not have this problem.

HEAVY and Light at the same time

If you have an 8 string, and want to keep high tension on the low end strings, while maintaining easy bending ability on the high end, then these are for you!

I bought them mainly for the low end 80 gauge on the 8th string, and then to have a spare set of 9s
If you like to bend or are used to lighter gauge 6 string guitars, then this is the perfect mid ground!
