A classic that won't break the bank

If guitarists were forced to choose one guitar to play for the rest of their lives, surely it would have to be this one: The Fender Stratocaster, a true classic and the most popular electric guitar of all time. The Player Series Stratocaster shown here is made in Mexico and gives players the most affordable way to get their hands on a Strat with the Fender logo on the headstock. The guitar's features are anything but budget-level, of course, and it combines high-quality woods and hardware with updated tone circuits and a fresh and appealing look that includes a one-piece maple neck with a matt finish on the back and an alder body, shown here in a traditional three-tone sunburst finish.

Judiciously modernised

The Fender Player Series Stratocaster is the same in many ways as the original design that Leo Fender came up with in the early 1950s. The neck and fingerboard are made from a single piece of maple, and the neck features a modern "C" profile. The fingerboard adds an extra fret to the original model's 21, thus providing even more freedom for lead playing. As mentioned before, the body is made from alder and comes in a high-gloss three-tone sunburst finish. The classic Stratocaster pickup combination of three single coils is also present here, but these feature AlNiCo-5 magnets for a more modern twist on the bright, dynamic sound for which Stratocasters are known. Fender has modified the electronics compared to the original Stratocaster design by giving the bridge pickup its own tone control, while the second tone control is shared by the middle and neck pickups. This model also features a two-point tremolo system, which dramatically reduces friction and enhances tuning stability.

An all-rounder AND a specialist

The Fender Player Series Strat MN 3TS is an extremely flexible guitar, but its pickup configuration of course means that it specialises in some areas more than others. Specifically, this guitar is most suited to clean sounds and moderate levels of distortion - this is where the pickups really come into their own with a punchy, open sound that retains plenty of character and fullness within the recommended gain limits. Players of Country, Western, Blues, and Classic Rock music can thus be sure of a great sound on stage and in the rehearsal room. The Fender Player Series of course also includes Strats with pickup combinations more suited to heavier musical styles.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

Just try to put it down again...

Since it was launched by Fender in 1954, the Stratocaster has established itself as the ultimate electric guitar and can thus be found in virtually every style of music. The Fender Player Series is aimed at the mid-price market segment, and the Mexican-made guitars combine quality that will satisfy demanding players with an affordable price that makes them interesting for beginners as well. And even at this price point, they proudly bear the "proper" Fender logo. These guitars also offer high resale values, perfect for players who want to upgrade or who perhaps decide that the guitar isn't the instrument for them after all (in which case their Fender definitely won't be to blame!).

Love at first chord

I consider myself an »advanced beginner« and I've been hanging around with this beauty for a couple of months now, enjoying every moment. True, it's my first Strat and I have no previous experience with Fenders whatsoever, so my opinions may be biased. Anyway, here are the pros and, if I can think of any, cons worth mentioning.

The instrument itself is a very decent piece of work, the craftsmanship, the looks, the feel … they all live up to the maker's name. Might be, that US made pieces are considerably better, but I find it hard to believe they are 100% so, when this MIM one comes at approximately half their price or less. I believe, however, that in time I may be tempted to afford one and check this out by myself.

The guitar played well right out of the box, however, I took it to the luthier for the initial expert check-up and restringing. Except for a minor action adjustment, no other interventions were needed.

The »modern C« shaped, satin finish neck is very comfortable and the varnished, nicely curved maple fretboard feels great when playing chords, while soloing (bending, sliding, pulling-off …) comes natural as well.

I was a bit worried about the »non-locking« tuners, however, standard tuning machines do their job well. The tuning rarely needs more than normal, slight adjustments, even with extensive tremolo use. Some say that tuning stability is a matter of (tremolo) setup and that 2 point tremolos prove better in this respect. Well, I wouldn't know …

Finally, the 3-tone sunburst finish is a classic and (in my opinion) just the one that doesn't get boring to look at with time.

If there is a »con« as mentioned above, I really can't think of it at the moment. I would agree with some of the guys whose observations I had read though, that the little spring which helps holding the whammy bar in place, would probably present no significant cost for the manufacturer while it might broaden the smile of a grateful customer even more 😊.

Last but not least, thanks to Thomann, all the service, packaging and delivery were first rate! Thank you and keep up the excellent work, guys!

R
Great quality.

When I received my guitar, which came rather quickly, I was impressed by the quality of the instrument. It is rather hefty although not necessarily a bad thing, if anything it feels more solid. All the features are up to par and work very well. Nitpicking, the neck and saddles came loose, something you can easily fix using 2 hex Allen keys which of course came included. The packaging was also very sturdy, being honest I was quite worried about breakages during shipment but not only was the headstock secured very well but it also had a packet of what I think was silica gel to prevent damages due to humidity overall a 10/10 definitely would buy again.

An impressive Stratocaster made in Mexico at the Ensalada factory. A 75th anniversary model which plays and sounds great. The satin finished neck and lacquered fretboard feel very nice . An amazing product for the price.
