Good starter Strat guitar- disappointing customer service and quality control
A good starter guitar. Sound is pretty good, sounds like a strat should. I'm comparing it to the Squier Bullet which a friend owns. Compared to that guitar this one sounded almost as good to my ears. The neck is glossy varnish finish which although it suggests longevity is not my preference as I find my hand moves slower on the neck. Frets were pretty well finished with some minor polishing needed. There were a few blemishes on the fretboard, one which looked like a minor factory repair, the other was just a dark stain/paint bleed. But for the money it's really good.
Update: just received my second copy, this one has none of the QC issues that affected the first, no black strings, no fretboard blemishes. One very minor niggle, the scratchplate and pickup plastic is a nightmare to remove
Further update: after playing for some time connected to a Roland Cube it seems the guitar has lots of hum regardless of pickup position, gain settings or guitar tone settings, I compared with my cheap TC copy which has no issues I also tried with different leads which made no difference, I notified Thomann and wait to hear back, maybe a shielding issue?
Further update, third st62, this one has a problem with bridge pickup position.bridge pickup position tone control doesnt work in first position but will work in 1st position.
Update: returned to Thomann for a check, told them I wanted store credit as I had lost confidence in this model. Thomann ignored my request as I didn't have the original packaging (didn't think I'd need it- who keeps large boxes around the house)
V diappointed customer, in this case they didn't go the extra mile. I have three other Harley Benton guitars which are great, but will have to think carefully about returning
