Room-optimised class D sound

With fully automatic calibration – an additional feature that is unique in this price range – the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM delivers a broadly neutral response even in unusual listening situations. This monitor speaker is designed for studios or multi-media editing suites and features high-quality class D amplifiers that do an outstanding job, with sound rendered audible by two mid-range woofers in a bass reflex system offering extensive depth. The monitor, which is also available in white, is made even more interesting by its flexible setup options, and is not only more powerful than the smaller iLoud Micro Monitor but also comes complete with a measurement microphone, stand, and locking key, in addition to a network cable.

Top-notch listening power

Boasting a total output of 100W, which is divided between the separate class D amplifiers for the 1" tweeter and the two 3.5" woofers, the monitor achieves a maximum level of 103dB SPL whilst covering a frequency spectrum of 50Hz up to 24kHz – a value which is no longer perceptible to most human ears. Before going any further, however, users should take a little time to calibrate the monitor using the measurement microphone provided, once the input has been connected to the XLR combo jack, in order to neutralise over-emphasised frequencies in the room. Alternatively, switchable equaliser presets are available for raising or lowering signal components below 100 and above 8kHz, respectively. There is also the option to configure the sound using a combination of bass reduction and accentuation at 1.8kHz.

Optimum monitoring made easy

Aspiring professionals or recreational sound engineers looking for monitoring speakers with the most neutral sound output possible can use the calibration tool, which is already included in the price, to compensate for acoustics at the mixing station. This is a major advantage, not least in rooms with difficult sound conditions, particularly as calibration at the touch of a button is highly beneficial to beginners. Anyone looking to just set up an editing suite, such as for podcasts or multimedia applications, or with only minimal space available, will benefit from the various setup options that the small speaker, measuring only 264 x 160 x 130mm, has to offer. Its weight of just 2.5kg also means that the speaker is light enough to be taken to a mobile editing suite.

About IK Multimedia

IK Multimedia was founded in 1996 in the small town of Modena in northern Italy. Its two founders, both musicians and engineers, joined forces with the aim of emulating electronic circuits using computer algorithms. Today, IK Multimedia is a multinational company with seven subsidiaries in Italy, Great Britain, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Hong Kong, and the USA and exclusively manufactures products which are perfectly tailored to the needs of musicians, true to its motto "Musicians first".

Maximum flexibility at all times

The iLoud MTM comes with multiple options for creating an optimum listening environment, including a tilting mount that can be adjusted by up to 20 degrees. The speaker can even fit under a sloping roof when laid horizontally, or be elevated to a higher listening position on a microphone stand. If a subwoofer is to be added, it is advisable to activate the 80Hz cutoff by holding down the LF extension button until all three of the LEDS above it are illuminated, which allows the subwoofer to handle the low-frequency range. Anyone requiring two iLoud MTMs for a stereo listening experience, on the other hand, will find the sweet spot – the optimum listening position – by arranging the speakers (at ear height) in an equilateral triangle with their head. For mobile applications, the two speakers can be transported in the matching IK Multimedia iLoud travel bag, which also includes a front pocket for cables.

Fully automatic calibration

The IK Multimedia iLoud MTM can compensate for frequencies that are amplified or absorbed to varying degrees in the studio as a function of the architecture and the material used, in order to provide the most faithful reproduction possible of audio sources. To achieve this, the monitor is first installed in the required position and connected up using cables. The measurement microphone is then placed at the sound engineer’s listening position with the “ON” LED facing upwards and connected to the speaker using the cable included in the scope of delivery. Calibration – a process that is marked by a number of sweep tones – starts when the Cal/Preset button on the monitor is held down. The LED on the front of the speaker flashes green when calibration is complete, and the studio session can then begin.
