A perfect match in the Cubase ecosystem
Shahab Tolouie 06.09.2020
Been searching for a good 8 channel interface for quite a while after my previous sound-card stopped working. I knew about Steinberg UR824 for years but since I was sceptic about USB reliability and latency, I never went for this particular product. I've had many times more expensive interfaces from FireWire to Dante, but finally it just came as an idea to give UR824 a try and boy, how wrong I was. In fact, this is one very good interface, and above all, it integrates perfectly into the Cubase ecosystem if that's your choice of DAW. The DSP mpnitoring shows up in your mixer and saves with all your setting (yes, also the outboard and DSP settings) along with your projects. practically it becomes a part of your Cubase and the zero-latency monitoring with DSP FX enables you to raise your buffer size to maximum and thus preventing any latency issues while monitoring with no latency and naturally within the software.
So far, so good... it's working like a charm. Preamps are quiet and the onboard Yamaha effects are very usable.
I'd improve a thing or two in this but for the price, you're getting much more than want you give. specially the Ultimate recording pack that includes the full Cubase pro 10 (which you can use the grace period right after the activation and upgrade to 10.5 for free). If you already own the Cubase, you can sell it and return a part of your investment which is a great donation on the part of Steinberg.
so, thanks to the Steinberg for their good product and to Thomann for their wonderful service to the music and musicians.
Cheers

A
Best pack for you studio for that price
AlexKartishev 21.08.2017
First of all, this is the best price in the market for that pack and this is the best price for the value.
I've been using steinberg CL1 + Cubase 5 before just for two channels recording. It was ok, but I've always heard some artifacts after exporting project and was not quite satisfied with sandy sound, recorded using Hi-Z input.
I don't know what have changed in Cubase 9, but these artifacts have gone and sound is amazing now!
I like how this sound card is integrated with Cubase and its inner sound processor is awesome. Also it is possible to add more inputs up to 24 and it will be suitable also for big studio. I like it!

Pros:
Great integration between hardware and software.
Great quality of both
Best price to value ratio

Cons:
If using high gain output pickups on your guitar, Hi-Z input can clip. But you can use padding to fix it.

M
Great for smooth entry into the world of home recording
MarekM 04.11.2014
I have purchase the Ultimate Cubase Recording Pack (Cubase 7 + UR824 mix/rack) at a time when I am returning to the DAW and home recording after almost 20 years. Back then playing in a synthy-pop band, we were everything MIDI on a Cakewalk with SoundBlaster 32 card. And so it was clear to me that unless I take an extensive time off for a long study of all that has changed in the DAW and home recording world since then, I need a good solution to take me through the learning curve. Therefore I decided for the (let's face it a bit pricey) UCRP solution. The installation was a snap, I connected a bunch of my good old friends - N5, K4r, Gibson and a Shure mike and soon I was ready to record my first new tracks. I like the low noise and the intuitive Cubase-integration. My only issue (the reason for the 4 out of 5 start in features) is that the UR824 has an optical connection for digital port while as I have found out most rack effects (that can be used as VST) have coax digital ports - hence a need for additional convertor. But that is nothing major that would lower the overall good feeling about the package.

J
Excellent Audio Interface - DAW pack!
Jimi4482 17.01.2018
There are plenty of DAWs in the market. As a songwriter I think Cubase 9.5 is the best for songwriting. I find the Chord Track, Chord Assistant & Chord Pads very useful. The editors are top notch and there are also a lot of instruments and effects to experiment and play with. UR824 is an excellent audio interface with many Inputs/Outputs, good preamps, low latency and onboard effects. You can even connect UR824 to an ipad. Android tablets are not supported though. Unfortunately there are no MIDI ports. Other than that Steinberg Ultimate Cubase Recording Pack is a value for money pack combining everything you need to start making music.
