Really pleased with Tascam DR-22WL

My partner and I are really pleased with the ease of use, and astounding sound reproduction of this very neat and affordable product. In our opinion it does everything it claims, and is well-made.

One drawback was the lack of carrying-case.
Note: this was easily fixed by a visit to the local supermarket. It fits perfectly inside a pencil-case (the one we bought has two sections, so we can fit the USB lead, spare batteries and a small camera tripod which we use as a stand).

In the three weeks since it arrived we've tested it in several live environments:
a 3-hour jazz-jam in a pub; a 3-hour jazz rehearsal in a front-room; a 2-hour choral rehearsal in a church, and for about 1-hour at home when testing both its recording and play-back features - all without the need to change batteries (there's life in them yet!). All the recordings were amazingly well-balanced and clear - and it had no trouble picking up bass lines, much to the surprise of our bass-player. We have no hesitation in recommending this product. Thank you!

Bought this unit a while back, mainly to use it in a documentary I'm currently shooting. The recorder works fine when the volume of what you record is high. The noise floor is simply to high for recording dialogue. It gets even worse when you try to use it with an external mic.

What's interesting is that when you line this to your camera, the sound gets worse compared to lining the lav mic (or whatever you're using) directly to the camera (Lumix GH3). And that's with a really high quality audio cable. With other words, the pre amps are rubbish and I would go with a Tascam DR60D with the knowledge I have today.

However, for recording concerts and performances this is actually really good. But I've worked with the Olympus LS14 before and would choose that one over this any day.

If you're a musician - go ahead. There's some nice functionality in this unit, more userfriendly than advanced though. If you are into film making of any kind - find something else!

Really really useful and solid as a rock.

I love this digital recorder. I've been using it a lot and it is still solid, tough and records with brilliant sound quality. The easy to reach input level dial is really handy and the preset options are pretty much perfect.

Also, I'm still using the first set of batteries. They've lasted really well.
