Best budget recorder

This is a real piece of a useful gear. I use it at almost every rehearsal. Pure sound, ready to mix for futher works and preparations. Wi-fi feature, 4 channels. I usually record double bass and vocals straight ro xlr channels and use stereo mics for an overall sound. I export audio straight after rehearsals. The only thing that might have been developed is the body. it’s made of plastic, and there are hardly any solid pieces, except from the microphone cover, which protects both mics. Tascam is still handy and I use it very often

This device is delivering some excellent sound recordings. It is probably not for absolute beginners, having 4 track mixing and recording, with separate levels does take a little practice. But once you have understood how it all works this is an excellent recording device.

The top mikes are good for a quick test record, or for capturing the acoustics in the room as well as the musicians. We have it paired up with DPA microphones on fiddles, and other instruments, which makes a huge difference over just using the built in mikes.

This Tascam recorder is great! It has all the features I need and most of all I love the dual level recording feature where it records another track simultaniously with lower level for safety reasons if the main one clips. Learning curve is small and you can get on it straight away. Solid piece of equipment and one I can totally recommend!

Not user-friendly for impatient non-techies!

I bought this to replace my Zoom which was playing up. Suffice it to say that the Zoom is still my go-to for getting ideas down quickly. I just find this Tascam too fiddly and non-intuitive. There?s absolutely nothing wrong with it - it?s me not it. I?m a musician first and last, and have a purely pragmatic rather than fundamental interest in gear - if something doesn?t deliver pretty quickly I?m not interested. I?m sure in more competent (or patient) hands it would be fine.
