Premium-class portable audio interface

The Universal Audio Apollo Solo is a high-quality 2-in/4-out desktop audio interface that offers UA’s outstanding 24-bit/192kHz audio conversion quality and allows operation on a Mac or PC via a Thunderbolt 3 port. Powered solely through its Thunderbolt connection, this audio interface is perfectly suitable for producing on the go. The Apollo Solo is the most compact model in the Apollo series, featuring two Unison preamps and a SOLO Core Sharc processor that allows access to the widely renowned UAD plug-ins. Users can immediately kick off their own DSP-based music production thanks to the “Realtime Analog Classics” bundle that is included as standard and the free Luna DAW software (for Mac only).

Analogue sound for a digital world

The Unison technology enables the UAD plug-in software to be seamlessly integrated with the internal microphone preamp hardware, delivering the most authentic reproductions of iconic vintage preamps or guitar and bass amplifiers. The Apollo Solo comes with the “Realtime Analog Classics” UAD plug-in bundle including the UA 610-B preamp, the Marshall Plexi Classic amplifier, the Ampeg SVT-VR Classic bass amp, and a selection of further classic effects processors from the legendary Pultec EQP-1A to the iconic Teletronix LA-2A. The plug-ins can be recorded through with near-zero latency via the UA Console application and, of course, used for mixing in all major DAWs such as Cubase, Logic, Live, or Pro Tools.

Ideal for producing on the go

Its compact size and low weight of just 0.6kg as well as its great-sounding, powerful headphone amplifier and Thunderbolt 3 power supply make the Universal Audio Apollo Solo the perfect travel companion for ambitious musicians and producers. Of course, this high-quality 2-in/4-out audio interface delivers equally excellent recordings in home and project studios, where it can be integrated into complex periphery thanks to its suitability for multi-unit cascading with up to three additional Apollo Thunderbolt interfaces and up to five UAD-2 devices (e.g. UAD-2 PCIe or Satellite) on both macOS and Windows and disconnected just as easily for use on the go.

About Universal Audio

Few manufacturers can draw upon a wealth of audio engineering experience comparable to that of Universal Audio. The company’s founding father Bill Putnam, along with his friend Les Paul, have an admirable reputation as trend-setting music producers and developers of legendary analogue studio technology. Putnam recorded Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Sarah Vaughan, and was Duke Ellington’s favourite sound engineer. He developed the famous 1176 Peak Limiter and distributed the Teletronix LA-2A level amplifier. This earned him a posthumous “Technical Grammy Award” in 2000. In 1999, Putnam’s sons, Bill Putnam Jr. and James Putnam, re-founded Universal Audio, transferring their father’s analogue vision and craftsmanship to the digital music world. Their product range includes audio interfaces, dedicated DSP farms, and a variety of plug-ins, as well as analogue hardware devices.

Perfect sound for every situation

The Universal Audio Apollo Solo will perfectly cater to the needs of all types of users, such as singer-songwriters, EDM producers who work completely in the box, or keyboarders who require a high-quality interface for live performances. Because it can be cascaded with multiple Apollo units, it will also be interesting for studio producers who are looking for basic equipment that can be used both on the go and as part of a cascaded system comprising further Apollo interfaces and UAD-2 devices. The Apollo Solo will also be the perfect choice for every user who wants to track through the analogue sounds of legendary Neve or SSL consoles, iconic vintage compressors, famous reverbs, and classic amps in digital music productions "on the road".

The Apollo Heritage Edition

The Universal Audio Apollo Solo Heritage Edition comes with five additional UAD plug-in titles comprising various collections. Alongside all classic effects from the standard “Realtime Analog Classics” bundle, these include the Pure Plate Reverb plug-in and the full UA 610 Tube Preamp and EQ collections as well as newly modelled, more complex versions of the older legacy UAD plug-ins included with the standard bundle, namely UA 1176, Teletronix LA-2A, and Pultec EQP-1A. Users who already own one or more of these Heritage bundle plug-ins can select from a list of alternative UAD plug-ins during hardware registration.

In the spotlight: SOLO, DUO, QUAD, HEXA, and OCTO

Each Apollo interface features one or multiple Sharc processors for computing the “Console” mixer software and the UAD plug-ins. Each plug-in consumes a fraction of the DSP chip’s processing power (between one and sixty percent), depending on its complexity. A small percentage goes to the mixer software for internal signal processing and routing. The number of Sharc DSPs that are used in a Universal Audio device is indicated by the product description: There is one DSP chip in a SOLO unit, two in a DUO, four in a QUAD, six in a HEXA, and eight in an OCTO unit.

l
excellent interface with a bunch of additonal plug ins
lifejoker 26.01.2021
The hardware is simply amazing, its versatile, easy to use and you dont need a power supply it gets it power straight from the Macbook. I did only put 4 stars on the features and overall because at that price they should include the TB3 cable, that is simply not acceptable.

As far as the plug ins go, they are incredible, the only problem is figuring out what you actually have included in this heritage bundle, so you will need the internet since nowhere else is it mentioned. When you register you get an offer to buy addtionnal plug in packs at an incredible price but be careful, figure out what you already own before building your pack or you might end up including one you already own.

Its a truly amazing product, but UA make it very hard for you to just use only the plug ins you have, slowing your workflow by user interface tricks to get you to try out and purchase more plug ins, and thats a shame as it gets annoying.

oh and dont buy any plug in for its full price as you will get regular offers with massive discounts for the plug ins.

Wonderful! A good transition from home studio to pro level
WeiJin (Michael) 23.10.2022
An excellent transition from Volt 276 to Apollo.
Superior sound.
Good A/D conversion quality.
Low noise. Simple interface, easy to use.

Cons
For Apple Silicons: relatively hard to setup for the first time
Console is relatively complex for some beginners
not for people who want to use more UA plugins.

Overall Good
beyonceknowlescarter 20.09.2023
Due to limited processing power you will most likely not get a lot of use out of the UAD Plugins, that wasn't my reason for my puchase anyways, as i just wanted a interface i was used to (UAD Twin) and the minimalistic optics - compared to a lot of the competitors' overcomplicated and frankly *ugly* design - definitely made me go with the Apollo Solo. So far it does its job as an interface well, it feels well built and high quality (again, compared to certain competitors absolute TRASH plastic interfaces) , if and when i will upgrade, i will most likely stay with UAD.
