Extend the low end
The Mackie Thump 15Sv4 shows exactly what extending the low end can really achieve. With its 15" woofer, this active subwoofer reaches down to 29Hz, placing it close to the lower boundary of human hearing. Compared to more compact solutions, it offers noticeably greater depth and punch while still remaining flexible and straightforward. For practical applications, the enclosure – relatively lightweight for its class – features integrated handles and an M20 pole mount, and can be combined with additional subwoofers if required. One of its more notable strengths is its adaptability to different top speakers: With presets and adjustable crossover frequencies, it works well both within the Thump v4 series and with other full‑range systems. And though the v4 tops already offer a convincing bass response, the 15Sv4 shows how low a compact setup can really go.
Quick to integrate…
Delivering up to 132dB SPL, the Mackie Thump 15Sv4 is suited to a range of medium‑sized setups. Integration into a PA system begins by feeding the signal into the two XLR inputs; then, switch the phase at the touch of a button, if needed. Next, simply route the signal via the high‑pass outputs to suitable tops, be that a v4 speaker or any other similar unit. The full‑range XLR outputs allow additional subwoofers to be chained together for even larger setups, with both mono and stereo modes available. However it's used, operating the 15Sv4 is never anything but straightforward, with key controls such as phase, preset selection, and crossover frequency easily accessible. This ensures setup times are short, while the back panel's clear layout keeps rehearsals, gigs, and DJ sets nice and easy.
...clean and separate
A key feature of the Thump 15Sv4 is its integrated high‑pass section, which not only provides different crossover options but also includes tailored settings for compatible top speakers: Presets for the Thump 12v4, Thump 15v4, and Thump Go simplify setup, while a variable mode allows the crossover to be adjusted for other systems. These high‑pass modes also include alignment delay, helping to match the timing between subwoofer and tops for a coherent overall response. Combined with switchable phase, the system can thus quickly be adapted to different placements and room acoustics. As a result, the 15Sv4 works well in both simple plug‑and‑play setups and more professional, fine‑tuned configurations.
About Mackie
In 1988 Greg Mackie, already a successful co-founder of a pro audio company, founded Mackie Designs Inc. with the goal of producing affordable, high-quality mixers. The company's first official product, the LM-1602 line mixer, was initially produced within the four walls of his home. As sales figures were encouraging, its successor model CR-1604 soon followed - and in 1991 the company finally moved into its first proper production facility. The combination of reliable quality and low prices quickly brought the company enormous success, so that by 1995 Mackie had already sold 100,000 products. In 2003, the company was renamed LOUD Audio, LLC so that there is no longer any confusion between the Mackie brand and its former parent company of the same name.
Low end for any setup
For musicians and anyone looking to extend their low end, the Mackie Thump 15Sv4 provides a solid foundation for drums, bass instruments, and electronic beats. It'll fit easily into a range of setups, from mobile DJ rigs and touring band PAs to fixed installations. With its variable crossover settings, it can complement existing systems or form part of a complete Thump v4 setup. The robust yet lightweight composite enclosure is designed for regular transport, and optional accessories such as covers make mobile use more convenient. In installations, the subwoofer can be positioned discreetly – for instance, under the stage – or combined with additional units, even functioning as a stable base for a top. It just depends on the output and coverage the setup demands.
