The TWS 2864-S Stealth is a single-channel all-tube head for electric guitar – and like everything from TWS, it's hand-built in Germany. This boutique amp offers two speaker outputs, and its 14W output makes it a great fit for band rehearsals and club gigs. Its stripped-down signal path ensures that the sound always remains crystal-clear: A treble control shapes the top end of the output stage, while the bass section sits right at the start of the signal path: With just three stages in the circuit, it keeps the lows tight early on, preventing any muddy build-up by the time the signal hits the power section. One visual highlight common to many TWS heads is the remote-controlled RGB lighting that illuminates the inner workings.
The interior of the TWS 2864-S is packed with vintage-inspired circuitry: An EF86 valve in the preamp stage, a hand-picked 12AX7 as the phase inverter, and a pair of 6V6s in the power section all work together to shape focused lows, warm and full-sounding mids, and sweet, rounded highs. Point-to-point soldering keeps the signal path short and free of connectors, which helps minimise contact resistance and delivers an exceptionally clear sound. A standout feature on the TWS stable of amps – and integrated in the 2864 too, of course – is the proprietary WonderVol master volume, which switches into bypass when fully opened, letting the head produce the defined character of amps without a master volume control. Regardless, guitarists can use the 2864's Warm/Hot switch, to set the output to full or reduced power. The special circuitry ensures that, when the master is rolled back, the sound stays open and full, just like a cranked amp, even at everyday listening volumes. That's why TWS calls this feature WonderVol – it's wonderful!
Tone connoisseurs, working musicians, and demanding amateurs will find the TWS 2864-S to be a rock-solid piece of engineering. At its core sits a rugged aluminium chassis, with all mechanical and electrical components kept completely separate: As a result, this head has fewer things waiting to go wrong and needs far less maintenance than many of its rivals. A black, matte-anodised aluminium front grille and 15mm birch plywood housing keep everything sturdy – while keeping the weight down to just 9.8kg, so anyone who regularly has to lug their amp around can do so without getting back pain. What they will get, though, is an outstanding sound from a head that doesn't need reverb or an external effects loop to achieve it, or indeed a recording out, MIDI capability, or connections for headphones and footswitches.
Tube WorkShop (TWS) is a young German company founded by a seasoned guitarist and audio electronics engineer. TWS offers handcrafted guitar amplifiers tailored for players who demand exceptional tonal quality and emotional depth from their amps. TWS amplifiers combine superior craftsmanship with the musical complexity inspired by vintage amps. Their designs primarily utilise valve (tube) technology, focusing on sound, tactile feedback, and aesthetic appeal. TWS's lineup includes combo amps, amp heads, and matching speaker cabinets. Additionally, they offer custom amp designs, tailored to meet individual customer specifications.
Whether it's all turned up to eleven or running at living-room levels, the TWS 2864-S keeps clean tones transparent, articulate, and yet warm. That's why this amp works across such a wide range of genres: Folk chords are given extra body and character, while the way the amp brings out every little nuance of a guitarist's playing gives Blues licks a real sense of depth and mood. Thanks to its immensely musical power-stage breakup and great dynamic range, the TWS 2864-S also makes a killer pedal platform. Funk rhythms come through bright and warm, and for Pop and Rock the amp delivers a vibrant, expressive tone that all the members of the band will love. And for anyone wanting to complete the setup with a speaker of similar handmade quality, TWS also offers the matching cab for this head.
