A wide-ranging expansion

The Behringer SD8 digital stagebox offers a flexible solution, functioning either as a stand-alone unit or as an expansion when additional channels are needed beyond the standard configuration. Despite its position at the more affordable end of the market, the feature set remains impressively comprehensive and includes a built-in power supply, dual AES50 ports with EtherCon connections, and a dedicated Ultranet network port. Its eight analogue inputs and outputs support a wide range of connection options, with CAT-5e cable runs of up to 100 metres enabling seamless integration between stage and front-of-house environments. Designed with practicality in mind, the SD8 combines a compact footprint and manageable weight with a robust metal chassis, complemented by protective rubber shock absorbers and durable chrome-plated metal handles, making it straighforward and efficient to transport, install, and pack away.

Excellent system compatibility

When integrated into a complete X32 system, up to six Behringer SD8 stage boxes can be linked via the built-in AES50 ports, allowing for a highly scalable setup. The built-in ULTRANET hub provides power and 16 audio channels to two Behringer POWERPLAY P16-M personal monitor mixers per SD8, all transmitted over cost-effective shielded CAT5e cables without the need for additional hardware. Two of the programmable inputs also support Hi-Z sources, enabling direct connection of instruments such as keyboards, acoustic guitars, and basses without requiring a separate DI box. A USB port is included for straightforward system updates via a PC, while the top panel houses eight combo inputs for mic and line signals. The onboard microphone preamps, inherited from the Behringer X32, can be conveniently controlled remotely through the AES50 connection.

For studio and live use

The Behringer SD8 is built to simplify workflows in both studio and live sound environments, offering seamless integration into a wide range of existing setups. Its accessible price point makes it an appealing option for professional and semi-professional users alike, while also remaining within the reach of ambitious enthusiasts seeking dependable performance. Whether used for drum sub-miking, connecting multiple instruments, extending FOH capabilities, or supporting studio applications, the SD8 helps maintain organised cabling and efficient signal distribution throughout the system. The inclusion of rack-mount brackets further enhances its practicality, enabling straightforward installation in a standard 19" rack, while compatibility with numerous Behringer and Midas mixing consoles adds to its flexibility and makes it a reliable and versatile choice for a variety of audio applications.

About Behringer

The company, which was founded in Germany by Uli Behringer and now manufactures its products in China, has been known for affordable and great-value equipment since its very first product, the Studio Exciter F. An array of mixing consoles (such as the Eurodesk MX8000), signal processors, and later sound amplification and monitoring equipment, has made it possible for countless musicians to fit out their home studios, practice rooms, and mobile PAs within budget limits that were previously unthinkable. The acquisition of other companies, including Midas, Klark Teknik, and TC Electronic, meant that new product groups were added - and also resulted in the technical expertise of these companies being incorporated into product development.

Compact and sturdy

With the Behringer SD8, the manufacturer delivers a compact stagebox that offers far more than an attractive price point. Its solid construction, flexible operation and well-rounded feature set make it a practical addition to a wide range of audio setups, while the dual AES50 ports allow multiple units to be linked together when greater channel capacity is required. The integrated Ultranet connectivity further enhances its versatility by enabling personal monitoring signals to be distributed to several performers simultaneously, helping to streamline stage monitoring arrangements. As an expansion solution for systems such as the Behringer WING, X32 or Midas M32, the SD8 provides an accessible way to add extra inputs and outputs, all while remaining straightforward to configure and operate. The result is a reliable and capable unit that meets the needs of event technicians, musicians and mobile audio professionals alike.

Light weight, Convenient, Great for reducing cables on stage.

I use this in conjunction with my X32 Rack, the reason I opted for the SD8 - 8 channel input version rather than the SD16 was because both units have 8 Outputs and i needed more outputs for 'Front Fills, Delay speakers, Subs, Stereo IEM mixes, etc' more than i needed 16 additional inputs (although they wouldnt hurt).

On the stage, I place my X32 Rack near the drummer where all the drum mic signal cable, backline signals (such as guitar amps, bass di line) and Wireless mics go directly into the X32 Rack. and it also outputs to the Wireless IEMS and drummer mini mixer for monitoring.

and meanwhile the SD8 takes in Signals from The wired vocal mics in the front end of stage, acoustic guitar plugs right into the Hi-z input, and all the floor wedges(4units) are outputed from the SD8 aswell as Main LR, Subs and Front Fills Speakers.

And this makes only 1 Cat6 cable going from the front side of the stage to the back side of the stage. Neat, the inner OCD in me is happy!

HIGHLY RECOMENDED!

Good enough!

Behringer is just Behringer – the expected quality and design. For my use case, the only thing I’d wish for is an internal system that prevents 'popping' in the speakers when switching AES50. Right now, you have to power down the PA system, make the switch, and then turn everything back on.
