After using a Roland Micro Cube for years, the Boss Dual Cube LX gives me a very similar, great experience in a more modern format. The built-in effects are inspiring, I mostly use the delay, chorus, and octaver, which sound very good. The amp models are solid, and the amp is loud enough even for small performances. It also sounds surprisingly nice with an acoustic guitar.
It works well with headphones for practice, and in my opinion it is better in this regard than the Micro Cube.
Notes / minor issues:
The included power supply is not grounded, which caused hum with single-coil pickups. Using a Harley Benton GroundBox mostly solved the issue. The amp is silent when powered by batteries.
With the Boss FS-6 footswitch, the looper timing was not very accurate for me. The same pedal works perfectly with my Roland AC-33 amp.
The Boss app works via USB even on macOS Catalina, including the driver.
Overall, it gives me a similar feeling to the Micro Cube but in a more modern design. The price-to-value ratio is very good. Of course, there are probably better-sounding amps at higher prices, so it’s always worth trying several if you have the chance.
