Great melody harp with a catch
I bought this harp for playing melodic parts in 3rd position (A minor).
The round holes and smooth edges are the main feature here. Hitting a clean note feels very different from the usual square hole comb of a diatonic harp. I don't have experience with chromatic harps so I can't compare the ease of soloing with those though.
Chord playing feels a bit awkward though but that's not what I bought it for.
The tone has a nice "raspieness" to it. Kinda dirty. It may not be everyone's taste but for deep minor blues, I like it a lot.
Here's the big catch though. The factory setup is quite poor. I got mine on a discount for about 15€ so that's okay. Other 15€ harps aren't setup much better.
I took a bit of 200grit sandpaper to the reed plates and de-burred the slots on both sides, then gapped the reeds visually. After that, reed response was quite good and consistent and overall it's a great harp for melodic play now.
So if you are not afraid of sanding the plates flat and gapping the reeds it's a pretty cool instrument, the round holes making it quite unique to play. If not, maybe opt for a harp from a brand that delivers new harps with a proper setup.
