Strings to get!
Ivars V 06.01.2022
Great strings to get if you wish to downtune on 24.75 scale guitar. I use this in dropped C they work out great!
Pros:
* Wound strings feel tighter than strings from other brands, while feeling pretty much the same on the fretting hand
* Stay in tune really well. Don't stretch them by hand, let them settle in over night and retune when needed.
* When used on a short scale guitar, intonation is spot on.

Cons:
* DDT range has pretty limited options gauge wise. Some of the sets just don't make sense. A wider string gauge selection would be awesome!

Great Quality, but for Some too Tight to Tame
whenkubrickmeetshendrix 17.08.2026
The quality of the strings is genuinely excellent. Normally after a string change, I need to stretch them quite a bit before they settle into tune but with this set, I had to stretch them significantly more than usual. That said, once they were properly stretched and intonated, they stayed remarkably in tune for several days without any issues. So in terms of quality, they were top notch.
My main concern is tension. I personally prefer strings with a slightly looser feel (i use nyxl 10s on my LP). Even in C drop tuning (on my Viper-1000), these strings felt extremely tight, the tension was noticeably high. Under normal circumstances, I use 11–49s for C drop, but this set felt more like how coated 11s feel on a standard-tuned guitar. To be fair, some players might actually prefer this, I found myself hitting drop C bends with more confidence thanks to the higher tension. But since I play a lot of riff and chord based C drop material on my guitar, the stiffness was a bit uncomfortable for me personally. The string noise was also somewhat noticeable to my ears.

Setup was another area where I noticed a difference. Right after switching back to my usual 11–49s, everything (neck relief, action, and overall playability) felt more controlled and easier to dial in. It’s worth noting that my nut slots were already cut for 11–49s, which may have contributed to the string buzz I experienced with this set. A few people I spoke to suggested this gauge wouldn’t cause issues, but given the slight size difference, I think the nut slots needed some adjustment because once I put the 11–49s back on, the buzz on the low strings (particularly the low E) noticeably improved.
I also noticed that raising the action higher than my usual setup reduced the string buzz noticeably. However, having to raise the action on an otherwise well setup guitar just to accommodate this string set was a bit of a letdown, not a dealbreaker, but certainly something to think about.

If I were playing a baritone guitar, I would definitely give these strings a chance, the tension is genuinely promising for that. On the other hand, if I were performing in a more aggressive style, I might still prefer these for the added speed and drop tuning stability. However, the excessive tension made my tone sound a bit flat and lacking in dynamics and the neck EMG 66 sounded noticeably nasal even on single note solos. That is ultimately what pushed me away from this set.

Almost perfect balance
Press K 19.03.2020
I use these for Drop C on a PRS SE and Drop B on an Ibanez. The gauges are a great fit and they don't feel too stiff or too loose, with the exception of the 6th string. I wish it was slightly beefier.

Their tone is a bit on the soft side, but they retain their clarity for long periods of time. I used to buy coated strings before, but I find the DR DDT lasts just fine anyway — I can use the extra money to buy more sets of strings and change them a tad more often.

Great sound and longevity!
Anonymous 24.11.2014
These are perfect for dropped tunings although I used them in extreme situation of constant tuning from E to C dropped. They behaved perfect and kept perfect tune for more than 6 weeks with still completely usable sound - no other brand gave me this longevity.
DR strings are not packed in vacuum bag - as I can see it doesnt change their properties BUT still - it would protect them in stored in not-so-perfect conditions that's why one star less in quality department. RECOMMENDED!

Normally I use Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky´s . My guitarist says thath I should use the DR Strings. So I deciede to order then. I think the DR-Strings has a very clear tone and in combination with my Bareknuckle Pickups you have a very "twangi" Sound with a little bit more treble.

Great for Drop tunings
Matti V. 16.09.2013
These strings are absolutely perfect for dropped tunings. They hold the tuning great and I can easily tune even as low as Bb or A with these without losing sound quality or grip. They keep tight and are very easy to play. The only drawback is that their thickness which can sometimes make playing harder.

Good strings for downtuning, keep tuning, not the brightest
Anonymous 03.07.2016
Deliver its promise to sound defined when drop tuned, i have it on an SG tuned down a hole step. They are more expensive than other brands, sound a tad duller but still defined, if you are not using these for downtuning i'm not sure it's worth the extra cash, they deliver on their promise tho, stay in tune and sound convincing when downtuning.
