A reissue of a tweed legend

The Fender 57 Custom Champ has earned its place as one of the most enduring amplifiers in Fender's history, having appeared on countless recordings and long been valued by studio musicians for its exceptional clean tones and expressive overdrive character. This faithful reissue captures the essence of the original, delivering sparkling clean sounds alongside a smooth, harmonically rich overdrive that responds beautifully to playing dynamics and sits effortlessly within a mix. Built and hand-wired at Fender's factory in Corona, California, the all-tube combo retains the classic tweed aesthetic with its brown fabric covering, while an 8" Weber Special Design speaker provides a clear and articulate voice that complements the amp's vintage-inspired character.

Home, stage, and studio

Whether it's being used at home, in the studio, or on stage with a microphone in front of it, the Fender 57 Custom Champ will prove to be a remarkably versatile amplifier whose character shines in almost any setting. True to the simplicity of the original design, the recessed control panel features just a single volume control, yet this lone knob is all that is needed to unlock the amp's wide range of tones. As the volume is increased, the sound gradually evolves from bright, bell-like cleans to a warm and expressive overdrive, with the exact response shaped by the connected instrument. A key contributor to this unmistakable vintage character is the speaker, whose clear and articulate voice complements the amp's natural dynamics. Driven by a five-watt output stage built around a 6L6 tube and paired with a Schumacher transformer, the result is a pure, responsive sound that captures the essence of classic Fender tone.

Iconic Fender sound in a compact format

For those seeking an authentic vintage tone and a straightforward playing experience, the Fender 57 Custom Champ remains a highly rewarding amplifier that can provide years of inspiration. Its control layout may be remarkably simple, offering little in the way of adjustment, but the amp's core sound more than compensates with a richness, responsiveness, and dynamic character that have made it a favourite for generations. These qualities are a major reason why the Champ has earned such a respected place in recording studios and among discerning guitarists. Despite its compact tweed-clad format and minimalist feature set, it delivers a level of musicality and tonal character that continues to make it a compelling choice for players who value great sound above all else.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today's music industry.

A enduring favourite among professionals

With its classic tweed covering and distinctive brown front grille cloth, the Fender 57 Custom Champ is as visually appealing as it is sonically inspiring. Its enduring reputation, however, has been built primarily on its sound, with generations of studio musicians valuing its exceptional tone and highly responsive playing feel. Widely regarded as one of the purest expressions of classic Fender character, this diminutive combo continues to be a familiar presence in recording studios around the world and remains equally at home on stage. Although rated at just five watts, its combination of a tube-driven power section and 8" Weber Special Design speaker allows it to deliver impressive clarity, projection, and musicality - proving that great tone often has little to do with size.

I am an amateur guitarist mostly playing clean and this is my first tube amp. I had two other non-tube amps before. My goal was to purchase an amp that is:
(i) with single channel all tube circuitry (i.e. reliable and easy to maintain);
(ii) simple to use (i.e. no need to fiddle with a lot of buttons for getting a right clean or slightly overdriven tone);
(iii) takes pedals well;
(iv) easy to be transported; and
(iv) is good for home or bedroom use.
I think that the amp satisfies all of the above and the sound of the Ruby 6V6 tube and 12AY7 preamp tube is very inspiring. The 8 inch Weber speaker sounds great and you should not be afraid of the fact that it is only 8 inch and not a 12 inch speaker. Also, the fact that there is no reverb should not be an off-turner, the amps takes reverb pedals (and also other pedals) really well.
I believe that the price was relatively high for such a small and simple amp, but I do not regret that at all, because it really ticked all the boxes for me and it is a joy to look at and listen to it. Also, the fact that it was made in the Fender Custom Shop at Corona should imply that such an amp can be resold relatively quickly.

A true classic

Knew exactly what I was going into purchasing this amp. I has on/off and volume. That is it! The rest is up to you and the guitar. So some call it a one trick pony. But I would call that to underestimate it. Yes it has the glorious tweed semi overdrive. But this thing is perfect as a pedalplatform as well.

Quality is top notch. It is built to last. From the fingerjoint cabinet to the handmade turretboard. Seen more recordings than almost any other amp i reckon, and for a good reason. The tone is there, when you switch it on.
One piece of advice. The alnico speaker needs a long time to properly break in. At least in my experience. After a few months it started opening up, and just keeps on getting better.
The price is steep, but they also keep their value very well.

Hmmm Hmmm. Hmm Hmm

Out of little boxes mighty voices roar.
This is the warmest, dirtiest, bluesiest amp fitted into a small package.
The amp asks you to dial it up higher than you have dared before.
Go for it, it's worth every cent.
Five stars all the way.
Every now and again you come across an incentive to plug in the guitar and go for it. This amp is constantly asking.

Many of us - professionals or home-musicians - one day want to have an idea about Fender-tweed-real-vintage sound. Dozens of tweed-like pedals from famous or unknown companies produce dozens of different tweed-like sounds. But finally if to be honest we are all the same because inside our souls we need the same things - real friend, real love, real breeze, real sun and moon, and… you could laughing…real sound of Fender tweed. So here it is! Real-Fender-Tweed-Sound.
