3-way monitoring with precision
The Focal Alpha Twin Evo active three-way monitor is the flagship monitor of the French manufacturer's Evo range, and is designed specifically for more demanding production environments. Its two 6.5" carbon fibre woofers work alongside a centrally positioned 1" inverted aluminium dome tweeter, creating a clear and focused sound image across the full frequency range. Each driver is powered by its own Class D amplifier, resulting in a combined output of 130W and a maximum SPL of 108dB. With adjustable input sensitivity and shelf filters for both bass and treble, the Alpha Twin Evo can be adapted to different studio environments with ease. At the same time, it represents a comparatively affordable entry point into three-way monitoring, offering the level of detail and extended low end typically associated with these systems without moving into significantly higher price ranges.
Connectivity and adaptability
The Focal Alpha Twin Evo is designed for horizontal placement, with a selector switch that allows the user to define which of the two larger drivers is used for bass and which handles the midrange: This is essential when setting two speakers up as a stereo pair, with the mids on the outside for a more stable central image. Alongside balanced inputs via a 6.35mm jack and XLR, the speaker also features an unbalanced RCA connection, making it easy to integrate both professional studio setups and consumer-level equipment. This flexibility supports longer cable runs between the speaker and an audio interface or monitor controller, while also accommodating DJ controllers, hi-fi systems and similar sources. The cabinet uses a bass reflex design to support low-end response, and manual room adjustment allows the bass below 250Hz and treble above 4.5kHz to be fine-tuned.
Producers and studio setups
The Focal Alpha Twin Evo is aimed at experienced users and producers who need a precise and reliable monitoring system for detailed mixing and production work. Its three-way design and increased headroom make it particularly well suited to more complex material, where both midrange clarity and controlled low-end reproduction are important. In project studios and more advanced home studio environments, it serves as a dependable central reference for evaluating balance, dynamics and stereo imaging. As an active monitor, it combines amplification and speaker in a single unit, offering a practical and flexible solution for more demanding setups. The only notable omission is the lack of a digital input.
About Focal
A French manufacturer based in Saint-Étienne, Focal has been active in the hi-fi sector since 1979. Alongside a core focus on speaker drivers and high-fidelity loudspeakers, the company's portfolio has also expanded since 2002 to include soundbars, car audio solutions, headphones, and monitor speakers that are specifically aimed at studios in terms of materials, design, and features. The company's research and development centres and the majority of its manufacturing facilities are located in France, and Focal's speakers are designed according to the philosophy of uniting functionality and unique aesthetics. To achieve this goal, Focal also works closely with renowned design agencies.
Mixing and production with greater depth
The Focal Alpha Twin Evo performs best in studio environments where accurate evaluation of audio material is essential. By separating low, mid and high frequencies more clearly, it allows for a more detailed and reliable assessment of complex mixes and supports confident decision-making throughout the production process. Its combination of three-way design, extended frequency response and higher output makes it a strong choice for larger home studios and project studios, as well as for users looking to step up to a more advanced monitoring system without moving into significantly higher price brackets — particularly given that a proper stereo setup requires a pair of speakers. Within that context, it offers a relatively accessible path into more demanding production workflows. If desired, the system can be expanded with the Focal Sub One, further extending the low-end response with a subwoofer that's been designed to complement the Evo series perfectly.
