Top Notch Bass Electronics
cortfield 30.04.2011
Easy to install (pre-wired), composed of high-tech components (e.g. the integrated active/passive switch-volume pot is from MEC, same component like in any Warwick bass), german engineering.

There is no any difference between active and passive mode (meaning active mode is not discolouring the original passive tone in flat position of B/T/M pots). In active mode there is no output boosting (0db), hence no volume drop when switched back from active to passive. The electronics itself is dead quiet (no noise at all).

Very clear, very transparent sound. The REAL sound of your bass (and pickups) can be heard! So do not install it into a crappy bass 'cause you will hear the crap:-)

In active mode the Bass/Treble/Mid pots work well. Slightly cutting with mid pot, great slap tone can be dialed. Treble boost works also well and adds pleasent highs. Treble cutting is available in passive mode too. Good idea.

All in all: considering the price/value, features and quality (German made, I assume), this gear is worth the money!

B
Excellent Bass Pre-Amp from Glockenklang
BassBunny 21.09.2015
I was looking for a new pre-amp for one of my basses and this one seemed to tick all the boxes. I needed one that had 5 controls and a passive by-pass was a must. When it arrived the first thing I noticed is how well made it is. Very small, neat circuit boards were mounted on most of the controls and it looked as though it would easily fit into any sized control cavity. Only a few wires to solder and it was time for a test.
Immediately you notice that with everything flat, there is no audible difference between Active and Passive. Once you start using the Cut and Boost of the active circuitry, the tone shaping possibilities were endless. The centre frequencies have been well thought out and as a bonus when in passive mode, the treble control becomes a passive tone control. Very clever and very useful if your battery happens to die mid set.
Altogether very pleased with my choice as it has transformed the bass I fitted it in.

Nice preamp

The main reason i got this preamp was to have a passive switch option.

It has very good quality sound, you can turn the treble all the way up and still not have harsh sounding result.

I reccomend it if you want professional sound.

Works great, sound great

I installed them in my Cort C4 plus with Nordstrand Fat Stacks to replace the bartolini Mk1 pickups and Markbass preamp (nordstrands are a bit shorter for 4-strings).
First time failed as it didn't work in active mode and with electronics, it's difficult to tell if I broke it, it was already faulty or I made some mistake, but Thomann solved it for me by replacing them after I sent them back.
The new set works great, knobs are good, control works good and it sounds great. As a bonus, the active/passive is a push/pull, so I could coil-split the fat stacks with the extra switch of the C4.
The jack is plasticky and very short, so I didn't use it.
Connecting the battery+ and ground on the bass-circuit is a bit fiddly, so extra wires (like for the signal and ground on the volume) would help for us non-professionals.
The schematics are simple enough and useful.
I would have preferred the nuts and washers to be in a separate bag instead of together with the electronics.
Doesn't work well with the rechargeable batteries I used as it gives a hissing sound, no problems with one-time batteries.
