Cheap and fun.
I got this just to add to the pile of "fun" stuff in my studio. It works great. The sound is a little thin and metallic, like a toy xylophone to be honest but unlike a toy xylohone it is perfectly in tune and very much useable as a real musical instrument. The sound can also be made CONSIDERABLY richer by placing the metallophone on some kind of resonant box. Like a wooden table or a speaker cabinet. Even a wooden chair can work.
The bars are a lot smaller than on a full size xylophone so a lot of precision is needed when playing.
Build quality of the wooden frame is excellent but the little plastic parts that keep the bars in position seem VERY fragile and I suspect they may prove to be a weak point.
For the price I'm really happy with it. It's not a top quality instrument but great fun to have around the studio and lots of cool arrangements can be made with it. Certainly a lot more fun than loading a MIDI xylophone (although the result may not necessarily be better...).

You really can't make a mistake with this one
It's cheap, it's in tune, it looks good and it sounds awesome. It sounds even awesomer if you put it on something to amplify the sound a bit. Anyways even without that it was pretty nice gift which is still used even after looong time after the birthday. Considering all that it's a bargain if you're looking for something musical for you kids to play with and you want it to be a bit more than just another quickly broken toy.

Super
Superb little metallophone, bright and well tempered, good for a toddler and a recording musician. I also bought extra rubber end mallets for a softer attack… recommended!

love this thing
it is such a good thing to have if you are always in the look for different sounds to experiment with. Plastic holders feel a bit weak and wooden beaters make them sound too harsh. Better get some rubber mallets to have a rounder sound out of it.

This is such a great basic metallophone to have
I bought this for recording some metallophone in sound design works. Works perfectly fine and is also a great toy to play with. It's really basic and doesn't sustain for ages, but it's everything you might need from one.
