I came back to re-edit my review due to a huge issue with this product.
The mixer either doesn't power up or it lights up like a christmas tree sending voltage to my speakers, if are not fast enough you will end up with blown speakers. I have to power it on and off a couple of times for this to work.
Extremely dissapointed after only 2 years of use and used about three times a week only.
So many people are having issues, DO NOT BUY this mixer until SSL has fixed it, which they probay won't as they will move to other products!
I have spent half of my life using SSL desks and this is by far the worst product I have come across in terms of SSL quality.
I was looking for a mixer that could handle my live electronic setup, drum machines, multi channel drum units, synthesizers, a modular rig, and my laptop, while also working well for recording back into my system. The SSL Big 6 fits the bill beautifully, and I am very happy with the overall quality.
That said, I do wish it had ADAT for expansion. In today’s world, some form of digital connectivity feels like a must. I also wish the EQ had a sweepable mid, at least on the first four channels, as that would really open up flexibility, even if it pushed the price up a bit. One more FX send would also have been nice.
But the positives far outweigh the nitpicks. The Big 6 sounds fantastic, with that unmistakable SSL character. It is tactile, quick to use, and perfect for fast workflow, whether you are recording, setting up cues, or making adjustments on the fly. For electronic musicians in particular, it is hard to imagine a better mixer at this price point. After all, plenty of DJ mixers cost the same while offering only a fraction of the capability.
