Tama HT230 Drum Throne

Build quality is excellent. Have now used it for almost 2 years at home and a lot on on the road and still looks as new. The seat cover material will last and it sits comfortably, much better than entry level seats. It has a wide strut base for stability and adjusting the height is incredibly smooth and easy. It stays locked in perfectly once you tighten it. I have not experienced that with other thrones. Also zero wobble after rough use!
The seat has a firm memory foam that in the first month will be a little too firm. After I used it the seat gets more and more comfortable. I often get pinching under my legs because I like to sit slightly higher. I got this in the first week of use, but after time the foam became softer and now it is incredibly supportive and comfortable. I went back to change my review on this subject. Highly recommend.

I am not a drummer. But I wanted an adjustable-height stool for two reasons: 1) To use as a keyboard stool; 2) To use as 'utility furniture' around the house.

I considered buying a 'proper' piano stool. This would have been a better choice for comfort and reach when playing the high/low octaves on the keyboard. However, it would have taken much longer to adjust the height (if at all), and it would have been much less compact around the house.

I decided to buy a drummer's stool, and I had read saw some positive reviews of this Tama HT230. I purchased it without much deep comparison between alternatives. I am not actually a drummer so I have no experience with any of the major names.

Here is a quick summary of my experience:

- Assembly: Simple and fast (<10 min)

- Aesthetics: Functional but not pretty. Actually my one single complaint about the entire stool is the size of the logo printed onto the cushion cover. For my taste, the logo is printed too prominently.

- Usability: GREAT! Very easy to adjust, and reassuringly firm when locks into place. I adjust the stool very regularly and each time it takes less than 5 seconds.

- Build quality: I am not an expert, but it seems sturdy.

Overall I am 100% satisfied. This stool meets my purposes completely. Also, I would be happy to use it as a piece of furniture for other household purposes where an adjustable stool is useful (office desk, sewing machine etc).
