I had the original Bass BB pre and it was excellent. This newer version is just as good, but with the added bonus of optional 18v operation, allowing for more headroom etc.. Sounds great as a clean boost, fantastic distortion/drive (EQ is wonderful for shaping drive tones) and is also a nice option for recording direct - a comprehensive, but very simple, preamp/distrotion.
