Authentic digital piano with wooden keys
The Yamaha CLP-845 is a high-performance digital piano with a wooden keyboard, which will capably handle everything from practice sessions to home piano recitals. Its library of 38 sounds, which are amplified by a two-way speaker system with diffusors to provide greater authenticity, includes a Yamaha CFX and a Bösendorfer Imperial and can be further enhanced using the 29 onboard effects. Players can record their own performances using the CLP-845's internal audio recorder as well, and the keyboard features a full 88 keys with a weighted hammer action, synthetic ebony and ivory top layers, and simulated escapement to accurately reproduce the feel of an acoustic grand piano. In contrast to the latter, however, the CLP-845 has the added advantage of greater sonic flexibility and a range of effects that allow the player to make their performance as expressive and harmonious as possible.

38 pianos in one
The Yamaha CLP-845's library of 38 sounds includes voices sampled from world-famous concert and grand pianos such as Yamaha's flagship CFX model and various fortepianos, in addition to electric piano and organ sounds suitable for Pop and Jazz music; all of these can be selected using the controls adjacent to the keyboard, which as mentioned above features 88 wooden keys with a graded S-Touch hammer action. The CLP-845 uses Grand Expression Modelling and Virtual Resonance Modelling (VRM) to simulate the physical processes that take place in an acoustic grand, which delivers a completely natural sound and gives the player free rein to vary their technique just as they would on a real grand piano. What is more, the piano's Dual/Layer, Split, and Duo modes make it possible to play two sounds at once, and the panel to the left of the keyboard provides quick access to the full range of settings.

The sound of a real grand piano
Yamaha has designed the CLP-845 with pianists in mind who are looking for the look and sound of an authentic piano for practising and intimate performances at home. The CLP-845 utilises state-of-the-art digital technology to simulate the sonic nuances produced by the hammers, strings, dampers, and other components of a grand piano, allowing notes to be played with the same Forte, Staccato, Legato and even Tenuto intended by the original composers. However, players who prefer a linear-graded hammer action and a GP response damper for the pedals can instead check out the higher-numbered models in the CLP-800 series. Each one of this series' models includes a headphone output, allowing the player to practise silently, and the sound otherwise comes from three speakers - two 16cm and one 8cm - rated at 45W each.

Effects, rhythms, and pedal assignment
The Yamaha CLP-845's three pedals can be assigned a range of functions: Sustain (Switch or Continuous), Sostenuto, Soft, Pitch Bend Up/Down, Rotary Speed, Vibe Rotor, and Song Play/Pause. Players additionally have seven reverb algorithms to choose from if they want to add some "space" to their sound, and a selection of three chorus effects put electric piano and organ sounds at their fingertips as well. Practising along to well-known music is also a breeze with the CLP-845, whose internal memory includes 50 pieces from composers including Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin, in addition to original "Lesson Song" compositions. A metronome - an essential little helper for any budding musician - is of course also included to help players perfect their timing, as an alternative to which the Rhythm button provides virtual bass and percussion accompaniment in styles ranging from Rock, Pop, Latin, and Jazz.
