everyone should know, using a cheap knock-off speakon can be a source of an expensive repair. so the common wisdom is the best Speakons are Neutrik ones. however, I’ve found it not the case.
initially I preferred those over Neutrik NL2FX based on ergonomics and this is subjective, but now Neutrik no longer makes NL2FX, and the NL2FXX turned just a disaster, so now the choice is obvious: the FXX is prone to disconnects with combo speakon jacks aka green ones (in fact, I have the green ones on four pieces of equipment out of four I own that uses Speakon), so this leaves the Amphenol the only alternative on the market that actually works good with my equipment.
assembly is easy, get the instructions to trim wires with right length (different from Neutriks). a flat screwdriver is required, unlike Torx or Posidriv on Neutriks. it might be not that fancy, but I already have one in my guitar bag (and still no torx or pz) in case of emergency.
after it’s assembled, it works great and feels good. I think, I’m using those plugs for a couple of years now and everything’s good and reliable, contact is solid, screws didn’t need tightening yet even by a bit. the rubber backs had been torn a bit around the cable after a series of assembling and disassembling, so are not really weatherproof now, but I’m not exposing my cabs to rain anyway, so not a big deal.
