I always wanted this application
Lahdo Gorieh, Lahdo 19.06.2022
Since I was a child I wanted that product so much.

At that time the Guitar Pro 4 was released& I always wanted it.

Finally, I achieved to get myself the Guitar Pro 8& it has so many features:

+ Useful tool for easy creation of own scores and accompaniments, for learning to play and practicing, etc.

+ Suitable for three- to ten-string instruments with up to 24 frets
Load and play an audio file with tempo and pitch adjustment for transcribing songs, as a practice or backing track

+ Virtual pedalboard with numerous integrated effects

+Focus / Unfocus function changes the level of the currently selected track by a defined value and thus creates a volume difference from the other tracks

+Visual metronome for visual tempo indication

+ Individually adjustable relative values for length, position, and velocity per note allow for precise adjustments

+ Simple mixer for drumset

+ Pre-listening function for sound banks

+ Editable score layout with numerous design options

+ Tablature, standard, or slash notation

+ Composition tools such as chord and scale display

+ Set up bars and layout with key, rhythm playback, bar repeats, repeat signs, coda, segno, repeat transitions, and section names (verse, chorus, bridge.), etc.

+Notation of note durations, triplets, x-tools, rests, dynamic signs, accents, tied notes, fingerings for the left and right hand, upstrokes and downstrokes, bar chords, note stems, and ligatures

+ Comments, texts, and fingering diagrams can be inserted into the score

+Playback effects such as note decay, palm mute, natural and artificial harmonics, bends, tremolo bars, vibratos, slides, hammer-on, pull-off, tapping, slapping, hopping, brushes, rasguedo, sledge notes, trills, tremolos, crescendo/decrescendo and fade in/fade out

+ Note input via the numeric keypad, mouse, or MIDI

+ Import and export ASCII and MIDI files as well as MusicXML

+ Export of PDF and PNG as well as MP3, WAV, FLAC, and Ogg files

+ 13 different program languages selectable

+ You are even able to use scores found on YouTube which are gpx., gp1/2/3/4, and so on

There are so many hidden functions or easter eggs, and I recommend you try them out.

This notation application is not only for guitarists.

5 of 5 stars.

So thankful to be able to get this application.

Faithfully,
Lahdo Gorieh, Lahdo

Super efficient trancribing software
Tonio 11.03.2025
With the built in features Guitar Pro 8 can nearly concure with Dorico or Sibellius and is on a really good way to become my favorite transcribing software.
Sounds improved so good since the 7 edition. Only thing thats a bummer is that you need to buy the new version and can´t "upgrade" your old software for a fee. I think it would be more costumerfriendly and would lead more costumers in the newer versions if every launch wouldn´t be a "stand alone"

no better alternatives yet
gaabora 13.07.2026
Otherwise, here's what we have: there was some potential for composing music, but GP8 remains just a simple notepad/tablature tool designed primarily for guitarists. The sounds are terrible, the RSE sounds even worse than standard MIDI instruments, MIDI saving and playback with external MIDI synthesizers based on SF2 sound fonts is buggy, and the dev team hasn't fixed a single issue with MIDI that was well described in email comunication for 4+ years.
