Good but with limitations
Io Eko 29.01.2020
Good synth with tones of features for the price.

My thoughts on the synth:
- Sound & synthesis. I love it! The oscillators sound great! It worths its money just for the sound! There are so many possibilities!
- The filter sounds great also a bit "blurry" or "muddy" maybe making the synth hard to stand out in a mix. Also, the resonance sounds different from what you 'd expect I think. It has it's own character and personally I love and hate it at the same time.
- The existence of the overdrive unit is really great.
- I love the S&H unit.
- The envelopes are very snappy which is awesome for a certain range of sounds but at the same time, the release and decay times are veeeeery short. They go about 3 seconds max which is unacceptably short if you ask me. It'd be great if there was a switch to make decay/release less snappy but longer if required.
- There's an assignable patch output that can improve your workflow a lot!
- The lack of a fine-tune knob is puzzling.
- The knobs are in general very tight. It takes too much effort to turn them around.
- I wish there was a physical switch to choose the octave range. These digi-buttons don't allow real-time octave switching.
- Not a fan of the analog delay. Not much of use to it if it's mono. That space could have been used for something better I think.
- I feel like there's a need for at least one more attenuator module and at least one more multiplier module. The possibilities would be so much higher with those additions.

Certainly worths its money but I wouldn't use it as my main mono synth. I'd say it's a great companion for model D.

A GREAT SYNTH
midifreak 06.09.2022
Was very surprised with this synth because it is so cheap. But it has a very well built case and the VCOs are so good the filter is also very good. So yeah overall a very good synth

PROS:
Great filter
Good VCO with the 3340 VCO chip which a lot of legendary synths have used
Many patch points since the synth is semi-modular
Snappy Envelopes
Digital LFO with many capabilities
Many utilities

CONS:

The only one I can think of is the BBD delay which in my opinion is useless maybe and extra utility would be more useful.

AR
power supply slightly noisy,

Love the machine, very versatile and good sounding, the power trasformer is a bit noisy and is better to replace it if you can.

E
amazing features for the price
Ech0 31.12.2019
Considering the price, there's not much negative to say about this synth. The build quality feels good, nice and sturdy.
The sound is full and fat, capable of making both deep bass lines and screaming leads.
Modulation is a lot of fun, and the patchbay options open a whole new spectrum of sonic capabilities.

One downside would be the number of "hidden" features that you have to remember by head, as the shift combinations aren't printed on the original overlay.

Biggest downside for me however is the filter, it gets way too dirty and muddy when you crank up the resonance imho.

Nonetheless, definitely recommended!

O
Very interesting synth
Ottebol 05.10.2020
I have both the Neutron and the Boog (nickname for Moog clone Model D) that I purchased recently at Thomann who did excellent handling. As for the Neutron, the build is milspec no doubt. In colored light it is for me extremly hard, if not impossible, to read the labels especially of the patch bay with that striped background that causes optical strain on my eyes apart from lack of color contrast, so I had to buy a clean black&white skin overlay (endorsed by Mr. Behringer himself) from 3rd party for 50 bucks. Very nice to have the ATTNs with dedicated knobs and to have MULT as well. Of course I have not had yet enough experience to go deep into soundpeeping, but my first impression is that I am dealing with a machine that can produce sound ranges from cold and harsh to warm and smooth. I use the Neutron through MIDI to keep life simple. I also use the Boog LFO to control the Neutron through the patch bay, real cool. This is for me a keeper.

My first semi-modular and for the price is really wonderful.
Nice oscillators , noisy delay (it's not bad!) and a lot of patch points that make it central in my modular system.
Keep it coming Behringer!

Very decent synth
iKriz 22.10.2020
I use it for adding some bass or melody sounds. Have it for a while now it still does what it's meant to do.

It does take a little learning to understand how the patching changes the sound. Just because patching can get pretty complex.

Excellent small synth
Da Geek 30.03.2020
The sound of this thing is HUGE! For the price it is a no brainer. Either for the beginner or the advanced.
Subjective con: the color/aesthetic is ugly

e
great starter tool
erreesse 17.07.2020
I just started in the synth world, and the neutron definitely helped me understand a bit better the world of semi-modular without breaking my bank. Easy to understand and start, and plenty of combinations to test and explore afterwards. The bass lines out of this are great and so rich. The delay is the only feature I don't like at all, it's noisy, blurry and has some bleed; guess that for the price you can simply consider it a very good fully analog synth with-out- a delay.

Good starter semi-modular synth

Can create a big palette of sounds, from bip-bops to deep heavy bass. For the price it cost, you cannot get anything better than this!
