Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro

The camera is a amazing, I can't fault it in many ways.
First the good, the image quality and superb and the versatility of the tilt screen in all lighting conditions is spectacular. The ef mount give great flexibility with all my canon lenses. The built in ND filters are great and seem to give little to no cast from what I can see. The Raw capability of the camera is second to non at this price point, and was is a super nice feature when coming from photography with Raw images. The inclusion of DaVinci Resolve Studio with the camera again is another great inclusion as you don't need to purchases an editing software to get started.

The no so great, the camera feels a bit plasticky and the rubber grip has picked up dirt quite quickly. My screen has the slight blue cast but BM is said to fix this in an update soon.

I would throughly recommend this camera to beginner and intermediate video makes/ cinematographers, and even as a B camera/ behind the scenes camera for larger crews and productions. Braw support in final cut and premier isn't great unless you pay for external plugins.

I upgraded from a Canon 5d Mk 2 to this and it was an amazing jump. I really liked filming on the Canon and for its time it was great. However the flat image (Raw) and dynamic range possibilities on the Blackmagic are good. It's not the greatest in terms of slow motion or low light and there's a bit of a learning curve with setting up for film-making but the results are excellent. The adjustable screen is fantastic and most necessary menu options are very accessible even under pressure. Battery life is poor and the rubber covers came off and got lost pretty fast (viewfinder rubber eyepiece and the cover for USB/xlr mic../HDMI port etc.). It's great having mini XLR's inputs, though a bit fiddly when trying to insert the cable and you have to buy convertor cables to join to your regular XLR cable. I bought two and they've lasted for years. We've fed the boom mic. into the camera during filming at times and it's been good for dialogue.
Cons - so every camera has cons. On this battery life is poor so I bought about 6 batteries giving me about 40 minutes each. Chargers for them are expensive. I bought the battery pack which is bulky but a lifesaver on set. You can use a V-lock battery but then the camera starts to become less mobile and needs a rig of some kind. Mini-xlr cables are quite dear and risky if lost or broken as you can't buy them in a local music or camera shop. Add-ons are expensive such as the viewfinder or battery pack. The 6k footage is brutal on storage consumption both on camera and for editing on computer. The 6k footage requires a powerful machine to edit with it. One problem for me is that when you reduce the footage from 6k raw down to lower formats (4k, 2k) it also reduces the amount of the sensor used.
Overall it's fantastic and we've had great results from it when shown on full size cinema screens with complements about the cinematography.
