Good, but not great
It adds great attack to your tone but you lose a noticable amount of low end. So you trade sounding big to sounding harsh and in your face. It's a matter of taste. If you already have a high output pickup and play hard, then the tone becomes too plasticky. At least that's how I felt. For me the tube screamers like od808 work much better with my Evh 5150.

Standard Boss pedal - no frills
This pedal is a great, cheap OD pedal.
As you would expect, the quality is amazing. I have just started to move across to Boss pedals as the ones I've had before haven't been able to stand up to constant use. I reckon these can be dropped, driven over, set fire to - disclaimer.... please do not try any of those things!
Three controls and its all self explanatory, which is ideal for me as I'm not a technical guitar player. I'm very much a plug in and play type - I know what sound I need and don't want too much fancy stuff going on.
This is a good starter pedal or an addition to existing setup.

100% expectations matcher
When ordering this pedal you’ve probably watched some reviews of it and what you see is what you get. When I picked it up from the package box you could feel by only holding it in your hand that it’s top quality. The same quality feeling comes back when it’s turned on and the classic Sd 1 sound screams through the amp.
Summarised this is a “must have” pedal in your collection and I’m not regretting the purchase.

Solid Workhorse
Boss quality is beyond reproach and I prefer the big target offered by having a switch thats operated by about 2/3rds the real estate of the pedal so functionality is 100%..
I'm using it to goose some of its siblings(BD2,DS1 and FZ3) rather than to push an amp or as a stand alone. While I do find it adds sustain it struggles to lift level much..it doesn't interact as well as Maxon/Ibanez do with each other..but its not in their price range either and overall I'm very happy with it.

Good and sturdy.
I use this pedal more than any. You can get a great sound out of it and it really adds some power to your playing. I would recommend it for anyone. It's not that expensive but it holds up against any of it's competitors.

Cheap but effective distortion
This pedal is quite cheap. That being considered, the construction quality seems to be quite high, with most of the components made out of metal and not plastic.
It provides a pretty decent bang for the buck and I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a decent Overdrive without going broke.

My little Helper!
I play mostly classic rock and metal, and if used correctly this pedal is a good match. A good match is namely boosting an already overdriven tube amp. If this pedal was lost I would probably buy it again, or maybe the MXR Zakk Wylde Overdrive instead. All in all great value for your money!

Cheap and cheerful
Great overdrive sound. Perfect when trying to achieve some hard, spacey, shoegaze sounds when combined with a compressor, reverb and delay.
Trustworthy BOSS quality. Would recommend.
Only negative is when I forget to unplug the pedal and the battery drains (my own fault).

A classic.
Pros:
- Excellent clean and slightly dirty tube-like sounds.
- Makes cheap guitars sound much nicer.
- No noise issues.
- Good quality build.
Cons:
- Loses some bass frequency.
- Not suitable for heavier music.
- Needs modification for full potential.
