if you want to separate the blur of instruments and the muddiness that drums add to this, then a drum screen is the best place to start. in live situations it is great for preventing the drums from bleeding into other mics.
the clearsonic 5 panel shield is perfect for wrapping around the front & sides of a standard size drum kit.
