OK, I am playing DiMarzio's pickups since 1986. Have two guitars with other brands pickups, one with Duncans, one with Kinmans. But I love Dimarzios for they natural, bit woody sound.
Chopper is no exception. Great sounding, well balanced pickup. Used by most people in bridge position. Kotzen is using it like that on his Tele.
I cannot play like him, and I am using Choppers on two of my HSS equipped guitars in the neck position.
They are really great, paired with PAF 36th Anniversary (bridge) and Area 67 in the middle. (I came to that solution, as I was not willing to cut the wood, to be able to fit standard humbucker in the neck position).
To sum the Chopper up:
- balanced sound (not too bright and not too bassy)
- great sustain
- super dynamic
- lot of harmonics
- versatile (designed with bridge position in mind, but works perfectly in the neck position also)
