These pickups are very not.
Used with a hot rod deluxe, it is difficult to get a clean tone, even with the 18v battery mod.
The extra tone controls are very useful to sculpt exactly the kind of sound you want. Capable of anything from hank Marvin to screaming hum-buckers and feedback in the right hands.
