Great whilst they last

Had a couple of sets, used on a Fender American Standard Jazz. First set sounded great for ages, like they were fresh out of the packet. After about 5 weeks, they suddenly (and I mean suddenly, as in next day), sounded terrible... 5 weeks isn't bad though. Next set I had them on for a week, then didn't play for about 4 days, and they had formed some weird gunk around the ball ends (looked like rust but wasn't). Sounded awful. Overall, a bit hit and miss, very expensive for what they are.
