Weak 3band eq and very edgy sound and fx that can't be optimized
For this review I compared ev 8 with eon one compact. I moistly do live gigs with a fiddle and backtracks so I need to have an almost studio sound to blend my fiddle with my backtracks. So that's where the ev was lucking of choices of eqing different channels. Ch 1/2 has only the typical 3 parametric eq which can't do really much except you already have studio conditions. Unlike ev the jbl with it's 5 band graphic eq on all channels can do rally impressive things and be very pleasant and very close to natural sound. I put ev 3 stars tho because for djs that already play already eq songs ev will do a better job because it reaches higher output without clipping and if u give it a good sound it will do the job.
Conclusion ev is mostly for djs and deffinetely not for musicians that use microphones or transducers which need a lot of optimisation.
The dB difference compared with compact is around 4
Also a very big issue is that the Bluetooth connectivity is very laggy with mediocre devices. As I tested with my phone which cost around 150 and with my 2k laptop the problem was that my phone didn't have a strong cpu while the laptop didn't have problem with the Bluetooth. Unlike that, compact is a workhorse having no issues with bluetooth.
