I was looking for a pair of speakers for indoor use and small ocasional parties. I started with RCF Art 912 A, but i returned them beacause those were not suitable for indoor use, they were missing midrange and the pronounced separation of sound wasn’t for my taste (verry good for PA though). Bought the FBT PROMAXX 110 and they provide a good round sound, verry good for a full-range speaker but not as clear though. I returned them aswell. Then i chosed the FBT VENTIS 110A and i was happy this time. Almost the same round sound (less low mids by default), muuuch more clarity than the Promaxx, but verry good as tops, not as good as fullrange. As the Promaxx 110 have a good load of bass, the Ventis 110 lack the bass presence, being boxy but the high mid and top range are awsome and (again) they are delivered in a round sound, much more suitable for indoor and small parties (and not only) but not so musical in the end. The Loudness preset though, boosts the treble/bass range and diminishes the mids, therefore are perfect for music audition or indoor mixing at low volumes. The presets are amazing and you can custom the sound by editing the sound acording to your preferences, switching between them as I get bored of one type of preset sound.
The sound is clear, not harsh or ear fatigueing.
So, is the price difference worth it between Promaxx 110 and Ventis 110 ? Yes, for the more exigent ones and no, for the more commercial use of the speakers, like bars, karaoke, small parties or small events where the crowd is not looking for the maximum quality/clarity of the sound. I like my sistem with a subwoofer and i ordered a FBT Subline 112 so i don’t mind the base „configuration”, altough you can boost the bass by editing it in the specific custom preset.
The build quality on Promaxx was another reason witch determined me to returned them. The wooden box was too thin and a simple knock-knock test on the handle side panel made my decission, as the sound emphasized the thin panel. Also there were some rough, unsanded edges on Promaxx.
The build quality is way better on Ventis, made of 15 mm birchwood.
Another shortcomings for Ventis are the standby noise wich is loud, you can hear it from 3 meters away with the volume knob set to 12 o’clock, the loudest of all the speaker sets i tried (second is Promaxx and the quieter is RCF) and also the missing on/off switch. For the latter problem i use power strips for each speaker, with an on/off switch. Another drawback is the protective covers, as they are usable only for transport and not wile in use of the speakers. Wish they had covers RCF like. I can’t release an opinion PA wise, since i don’t use them accordingly.
