Acoustic adjustment included

The Genelec 8040 BPM is an active two-way studio monitor that delivers the first-class sound producers the world over have come to expect from the Finnish manufacturer. With its signature, stylish housing produced from lightweight die-cast aluminium, this model features two separate amplifiers with a total output of 180W, driving the 6.5" woofer and 3/4" tweeter to deliver sound pressure levels (SPL) of up to 115dB per stereo pair. In addition to its automatic start function, this speaker also allows the frequency response to be adjusted to the room’s acoustic conditions. A balanced XLR input allows signals to be fed in without interference, while a protective circuit prevents driver damage caused by short-term level peaks. Magnetic shielding is also included as standard.

Impressive range of features

With a frequency range from 45Hz to 20kHz, the Genelec 8040 BPM delivers impressive low-end performance for a compact monitor. To achieve this, the speaker uses bass reflex technology, which maximises low-frequency sound pressure and extends the driver transmission range. For adjustment to room conditions, both the bass and treble levels can be reduced in four different dB steps, or the bass can be rolled off completely. When the monitor is placed on a reflective surface, activating the Desktop Control function helps prevent frequencies between 160 and 200Hz from becoming overly pronounced. The (deactivatable) automatic start function detects whether a signal is present and automatically switches the amplifier unit on as required. This makes the speaker easy to operate and helps save energy.

For the discerning listener

Anyone looking for a monitor speaker with a flat frequency response and a spacious, three-dimensional sound will not be disappointed with the Genelec 8040 BPM. As this device does not include a volume control, it's best suited for studio setups where the listening level is adjusted via an external monitor controller. If playback remains consistently too loud or too quiet, the speaker's sensitivity can be adjusted using a small rotary control. For recording and mixing professionals who rely on consistently high-quality sound, the 8040 is an excellent choice, with its housing materials and shape also contributing hugely to the overall sound audio image – they minimise resonance and ensure optimum sound dispersion in multi-speaker setups.

About Genelec

Genelec was founded in 1976 by Ilpo Martikainen. It grew from a family business into one of the world's leading manufacturers of professional studio and broadcasting loudspeakers. To this day, Genelec's loudspeakers are manufactured exclusively in Finland. Genelec offers performance-oriented, neutral-sounding loudspeakers and subwoofer systems for audio professionals and sound enthusiasts, and a combination of innovative technology and design ensure that the range of products is continuously improving. The company is committed to sustainable development and environmental awareness. In 2018, Genelec was awarded the Pro Sound "Company of the Year" award. Genelec speakers are favourites of such recording industry veterans as Obie O'Brien, Michael Carnes, and David Reitzas, as well as of producers like Hardwell, Keith Ross, and Vini Vici.

Ideal for stereo and surround setups

Whether in a professional studio, home setup, or editing suite, the Genelec 8040 BPM delivers outstanding results thanks to its flat frequency response and room-adaptation features. It can be used not only as part of a stereo set, but also as a component in a surround setup. Genelec also offers a suitable subwoofer for this purpose – the Genelec 7040 APM (article no. 365449). When used on resonant surfaces such as a desk or stand, the integrated IsoPod comes into play, decoupling the speaker from its support surface using a combination of rubber feet and connecting bars. Multiple threaded inserts at the rear of the housing provide secure mounting. Genelec also supplies suitable mounting accessories, such as the Genelec 8000-422B Wall Mount (article no. 347094).

Beast Monitors

Saved up for years in order to become the proud owner of what I consider to be some of the best near-field studio monitors ever.
After managing for years on very budget-friendly monitors, I was determined to invest in professional room acoustics and some decent monitors for my work.
The level of detail and the stereo imaging in these will blow your mind when used in a well treated acoustic environment. They are crystal clear. Not harsh. Super wide sweet spot. Tight clear bass response moves the air in front of your tummy and makes you grin like an idiot.
The sound just sort of materialises in front of your face - you can't tell how far away the speakers are or their exact position.
I've listened to a fair number of monitors from various high-end brands - in treated rooms/studios and yet I am still drawn to the sound of Genelec monitors.
Definitely recommended for anyone serious about production or listening in a treated acoustic environment.
Built like tanks - these monitors handle everything you can throw at them ;)

The best speakers I've worked with!
Mokushi 08.02.2019
I have been a sound designer and music composer for more than a decade and it took me a while until I could afford the Genelec class speakers. I've worked with headphones and Yamaha HS series for quite a while though, but the 8040 BPM series are a game-changer.

The sound is very clear, I could even hear noises of compression, something that I could barely detect on my old speakers and even headphones.

The bass is so clear, I barely have to equalize or touch it afterwards.

The options on the back that allow for bass and treble tilts are also very useful and can help in finding the perfect balance for your room.

The price is pretty high, but so is the quality. All in all, I am really happy with this purchase,

There Genelecs of course their good
Gumpert 26.04.2020
Built quality is superb your really buying into a serious brand with the 8000 series genelecs I used to own the 8030’s and mixes were instantly better you could hear in great detail if things were over compressed or sticking out in the mix which I couldn’t hear on cheaper monitors the 8040 sounds identical but has more power and deeper bass, if your not used to the lower frequencies you need to get your ear in by listening to music similar to what you will produce, there not hyped, and highs are smoother to the ear more than Adams for example some would say a little hifi but there is no doubt they are clear I love these !

Very good quality monitors
If you are mixing these will help a lot as you can hear all the details in the mix. They are smaller than Krk Vxt8 for example ,which i also own,but they have more bass and also sound better.By sound better i mean the genelecs are more flat and they dont color the sound.. "they reveal more details" its the right words for this monitors
Pros: Good price ,quality, good looking monitors, flat , nice round bass .the best at this price range probably
Cons: I personally found that i canot mix on this monitors for long period of time as they are making my ears fatique if i mix more than 40-60 minutes on them.
