With a frequency range from 45Hz to 20kHz, the Genelec 8040 BWM delivers impressive low-end performance for a compact monitor. To achieve this, the speaker uses bass reflex technology, which maximises low-frequency sound pressure and extends the driver transmission range. To allow the output to be adjusted to room conditions, both the bass and treble levels can be reduced in four different dB steps – or the bass can be rolled off completely. When the monitor is placed on a reflective surface, activating the Desktop Control function helps prevent frequencies between 160 and 200Hz from becoming overly pronounced. The (deactivatable) automatic start function detects whether a signal is present and automatically switches the amplifier unit on as required. This makes the speaker easy to operate and helps save electricity, too.
