Mediocre at best

I own and have owned various Epiphones and Gibsons, ranging from affordable to Custom Shop. This one was pretty mediocre, even for a reduced price.

The satin finish was a letdown, I've played SGs and Les Pauls that've felt way better with a satin finish, this one just felt and looked a bit cheap. Fretboard was light and dry, there were wood particles all inside the case and is wasn't really resonant. The pickups were okay and the rounded C neck shape was slimmer than expected. All in all not a keeper for me.

I've played a few 335s over the years, although none was quite as good as a friend's old 1960s 330, which was amazing. But I wanted a 335 to add to my LP, Strat and Tele, and secondhand wasn't really an option here in Spain so I decided to buy new.
I did a fair bit of research, including reading the reviews here on Thomann, and plumped for the cheap version, preferring the colour over the others available, and I am quite happy with the plain finish, which saves a lot of money and doesn't at all detract from the way the guitar looks.
The positives - I love the sound, it's so playable and is super comfortable standing or sitting. I use Katana and Blackstar, but have tried it with various amps, even a Fishman, and it always sounds great, expressive and dynamic, with good definition between the strings in complex chords. Winding the tone back on the neck pickup gives a jazzier tone, as others have mentioned, but it also works very well with pedals, and the bridge pickup really comes into it's own with a TubeScreamer or similar.
The negatives - again, as others have pointed out, the tuning pegs are not the best, but for some reason they have benefitted from fitting a set of 10-46 Elixirs, and the G peg doesn't graunch or stick any more. The neck pickup surround did seem odd so I simply turned it round, as I have seen suggested, and now the pickup sits parallel to the strings instead of sloping. The point about the case strap is a good one - it's so annoying not being able to open the lid and leave it up, as the strap is too short. The case itself is very heavy and I'm going to order a lightweight gig bag instead.
Overall, I'm a very happy customer. It's now my go-to guitar and I have been playing it a couple of hours a day since I bought it last December. My other guitars have their place but the 335 is so versatile and has encouraged me to use it in different situations, that the others are often second choice. Love it! Just looking for the perfect amp next...

Eine für die Ewigkeit

Ich hatte Zweifel wegen der Lackierung. Völlig unbegründet. Dieses Satin Vintage Sunburst macht seinem Namen alle Ehre. Sieht übertrieben geil aus. Würde ich jeder Zeit wieder kaufen.
Qualitativ ist die ES 335 ohnehin über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Alles was schlauer Leute als ich schon über dieses Modell geschrieben haben ist richtig.

Une ES 335 moyenne

Reçu depuis peu. J'ai du revoir entièrement le réglage ( truss rod, chevalet, pontets ). Les potentiomètres de tonalité sont peu efficaces. J'aurais préféré des mécaniques métalliques pas ce plastique tulipe. Généralement les micros Gibson donnent un bon son. Sur les Gibson on voit plutôt des problèmes de finitions ou de lutherie que de micros. En position manche ou chevalet c'est correct. La position intermédiaire est moins bonne avec un manque de définition. Question finition c'est bien pas de mauvaises surprises. Le manche est agréable à jouer. Dans l'ensemble c'est une ES 335 moyenne assez polyvalente. Plus adaptée à la musique brésilienne aux standards de jazz et au blues. Pour le rock je préfère une Les Paul ou une Fender.

Pour résumer les micros sont bons mais la lutherie n'est pas terrible.

Pour être plus précis la lutherie laisse à désirer. Las mécaniques sont grippées. Elles ne tournent pas à la juste pression puis soudain font saut. Accorder cette guitare est besogneux. Les potentiomètres de tonalité sont sans effet probant. Le manche est bien j'ai pu obtenir une action basse , mais la justesse des frettes est limite. Elle est plus juste à partir de la 10éme case que de la 1ere. Les micros sont bons peut-être un peu sombre mais c'est le style . Cette guitare était vendue 2770 € sur Thomann il y a un an . Elle est passée à 2490 €. Peut-être que dans un an elle passera à 2000 € vue sa finition. Elle tient assez bien l'accord. Heureusement parce que les mécaniques sont comme je disais un peu grippées. J'aime la finition satin burst ça change de la brillance classique . A vrai dire c'est la sonorité et la jouabilité que je préfère à la couleur. A noter très important . Le modèle que j'ai reçu avait un chevalet qui avait été traficoté par Gibson avec un petit mot explicatif sur le montage exotique du "thumbwheel". On s'en aperçoit tardivement quand on enlève toutes les cordes. Ce chevalet est irremplaçable.
Avis aux amateurs vérifiez la lutherie en détails. C'est donc une ES 335 moyenne, la baisse du prix est justifiée.
