Damaged due to poor packaging
Alloy Kenneth 19.08.2020
I really like the R457 it plays great and seems to be exactly what I was looking for. This is my first 7 string guitar and my only disappointment and reason for 3 stars is the packaging and the quality of the bridge. It seemed worn like a B stock return. My guitar came to me with a bent strap button at the bottom of the guitar and it chipped the finish at that location as well. I will repair it myself and keep the guitar but not something I want to see with my next purchase. Thomann has not lost me yet.

Great price, but needs a fair amount of work

You get a lot of guitar for the price here, but it falls short in a few crucial places. I had to sand down a high fret, and the pickups are extremely noisy - I don't know if the electronics are poorly soldered/shielded/grounded or if the pickups themselves are microphonic. The pickups sound pretty bad as well, very muddy on the low end, which is especially problematic on a 7 string. I'm replacing all the electronics anyways as I bought this as a modding platform, but if I were a new guitar player and got this as my first guitar I would've been discouraged. If you don't know how to set up your guitar expect to pay at least what the guitar cost to get it in working order. As a modding platform for an experienced player the guitar is a very good deal, the neck is nice and the action can be set very low, and there's no neck dive. But again, a guitar at this price point is mainly a beginner's guitar and while you can't expect perfection, you should expect a well-functioning instrument.

A good cheap guitar, a good start for a custom project

The guitarbody is lightweight and pretty robbyst!
but the pickups and tuningscrews are subject for change, with hard playing the strings could easily get out of tune and the pick ups make a slightly muddy distortion sound.

All in all, a good newbie guitar that you could upgrade whilst expanding your skills.
