The Mackie Thump 210XT is a lightweight active loudspeaker with a heavweight output, thanks to its 1,400W Class D amplifier, which delivers a maximum sound pressure level of 127dB. As the 210XT's name suggests, this is a second generation Thump with a 10" woofer. There are also two channels – a practical XLR‑TRS input on Channel 1 for mic and line signals, and another combo input on Channel 2 for line and mini‑jack. The Thru output can pass on the mixed signal of both channels. Measuring 569×330×325mm and weighing in at only 11.6kg (not much over 25lbs), the Mackie Thump 210XT is the smallest model in the updated Thump family, which should give some idea of where it could best be put to use. Despite its compact size, however, the 210XT's outstanding feature set means it's ready for almost anything; thanks to the built‑in pole‑mount socket, it can be mounted easily on any ordinary stand, while its dual‑bevel build also makes it a flexible option as a wedge‑style stage monitor.
The XT models in the Thump series comes with a whole host of extra features, and the compact 210XT is no exception. Most interesting for new users are perhaps the voicing modes – Music, Live, Club and Monitor – that make the speaker ready for use almost anywhere. Almost? In fact, it also features modes for both indoor and outdoor settings, delivering Mackie's full, rich sound absolutely anywhere at the press of a button. The XTs are also equipped with Bluetooth, making both mix management and speaker placement a breeze: The Thump Connect 2 app even allows users to pair two loudspeakers without cables, as well as offering easy access to functions like the system EQ, voicing modes, and all levels and presets can be adjusted within the app. Last but not least, the Mackie Thump 210XT also has M10 suspension points so it can be flown from ceiling rigging or truss.
Everyone from occasional semi-pro entertainers to professional DJs will find a lot to like about the Mackie Thump 210XT: It's a modern and highly flexible device, and capable of providing sound reinforcement for music, live instruments, and vocals and speech of all kinds. The integrated Music Ducking feature, for example, automatically reduces the level on Channel 2 as soon as there's an active signal on Channel 1, making it a properly practical tool for announcements and hosting events of all kinds, from open mic nights right through to conferences. Singers and speakers in these kinds of settings will also profit from the Thump's built‑in feedback eliminator, which almost gives them the ability to bend the laws of physics: Simply by pressing the feedback‑eliminator button, even inexperienced presenters or vocalists can keep that ear‑splitting squeal at bay if they get a bit too close to the mic.
In 1988 Greg Mackie, already a successful co-founder of a pro audio company, founded Mackie Designs Inc. with the goal of producing affordable, high-quality mixers. The company's first official product, the LM-1602 line mixer, was initially produced within the four walls of his home. As sales figures were encouraging, its successor model CR-1604 soon followed - and in 1991 the company finally moved into its first proper production facility. The combination of reliable quality and low prices quickly brought the company enormous success, so that by 1995 Mackie had already sold 100,000 products. In 2003, the company was renamed LOUD Audio, LLC so that there is no longer any confusion between the Mackie brand and its former parent company of the same name.
As the next stage in the development of the hugely popular – and affordable – Thump loudspeaker series, the renowned manufacturer has taken the entire range up a notch. This applies both to the active loudspeakers with their 1,400W output and to the active subwoofers: Common to the entire range, and indeed all Mackie products, is their solid build quality, flexibility, and portability. The focus of the Thump range is on a compact build with a big impact, making the series a perfect fit for mobile DJs and touring bands, as well as for installation in clubs, bars and other event spaces. The sound quality of Mackie's products is as always beyond reproach, and it's ably supported here by a range of road‑ready features. The active loudspeakers such as the Mackie Thump 210XT even include a 2‑channel mixer, allowing users to combine several audio sources, even if their setup is only made up of a single speaker.
