Obwohl die baugleiche Version in Tabacco Sunburst fast 250 € günstiger gewesen wäre, habe ich mich bewusst für diese Ausführung entschieden – und es nicht bereut.

Der Bass liegt im Koffer zwar schwer wie ein Brett, doch am breiten Gurt gespielt gleicht die leichte Sumpfesche das hervorragend aus. Kopflastigkeit ist keine Spur vorhanden, und selbst längere Proben über mehrere Stunden lassen sich ohne Rückenbelastung absolvieren.

Meistens spiele ich das Instrument im Passivmodus, wo es mit einem wunderbar knurrigen Grundsound überzeugt. Der aktive EQ greift wirkungsvoll in den Klang ein, und auch der Lautstärkensprung fällt deutlich moderater aus, als ich es von anderen Instrumenten gewohnt bin. Fast alle Potis verfügen über eine Mittelrasterung und sollten mit etwas Fingerspitzengefühl bedient werden, da die Boost/Cut-Regelung sehr deutlich anspricht. Der EQ wird mit zwei 9V-Batterien betrieben, und das Batteriefach ließ sich beim ersten Mal nur schwer öffnen. Ganz ohne Batterien bleibt der Passivmodus jedoch uneingeschränkt nutzbar.

Bereits „out of the box“ war der Fünfsaiter so gut eingestellt, dass ich direkt losspielen konnte. Lackfehler oder Einschlüsse sucht man vergeblich. Das Griffbrett mit seinen abgerundeten Kanten liegt angenehm in der Hand und macht Slidings zu einem echten Vergnügen. Der Saitenabstand von gut 18 mm ist etwas größer als bei vielen modernen Fünfsaitern, dennoch bleiben alle Saiten über den gesamten Hals hinweg bestens erreichbar.

Ich habe den Jazzbass inzwischen in zahlreichen Stilrichtungen eingesetzt und war stets begeistert. Er kann problemlos mit dem amerikanischen Original mithalten und bietet dank EQ sogar einen spürbaren Mehrwert.
