Music Man StingRay Special 5 HH

I have been playing bass for many years and this is my first Music Man StingRay. After spending some serious time with the instrument, I can honestly say that it fully lives up to its legendary reputation.
The build quality is absolutely top-notch. Everything feels solid, precise and well thought out. The neck is extremely comfortable, the fretwork is excellent and the instrument feels perfectly balanced whether sitting or standing.
Tonally, this bass delivers exactly what you expect from a StingRay: a powerful, punchy low end, clear mids and that unmistakable Music Man character. It cuts through the mix effortlessly, yet still works beautifully for clean, dynamic playing. From fingerstyle to slap, it responds instantly and feels very alive.
I purchased this bass for professional use and it exceeded my expectations both in sound and playability. Combined with Thomann’s flawless service and fast shipping, the whole experience was excellent.

Super Teil jedoch Nacharbeit nötig

Ich spiele seit Ende der 90er einen MM Stingray 5 und wollte mir nun einen weiteren zulegen, da mein Zweitbass, ein Sire V9 aufgrund eines defekten Potis derzeit nicht einsatzbereit ist.
Der Bass ist bildschön und hat einen Super-Sound. Er klingt auch definierter und drahtiger als der 97er MM. Der Hals ist super verarbeitet, gerade und hat keine herausstehenden Bünde (zumindest nicht fühl und sichtbar). Die dunklen Dots auf dem dunklen Holz machen auf dunkler Bühne das Orientieren etwas schwerer, jedoch habe ich für mich dafür eine Lösung gefunden. Die Mechaniken sind super leichtgängig und trotzdem sehr stimmstabil. Das Gewicht ist geringer, die Korpus Form etwas abgewandelt, die Sechspunkt Halsverschraubung ist einer Fünfpunkt-Verschraubung gewichen. Soweit, so gut.
Was nicht sein darf, ist jedoch dass eine Nachjustierung des Halses notwendig war, weil die Saiten klirrten. Weiterhin war ein Reiter der Bridge schief, da die Einstellschrauben unterschiedlich weit herausgeschraubt waren. Auch dort musste nachjustiert werden. Das waren die offensichtlichen Mängel. Beim ersten Bühnenauftritt hatte ich nach dem ersten Song plötzlich den Volumen-Poti Knopf in der Hand. Die Inbusschraube hatte sich gelöst. Nun hat man auf der Bühne im Dunkel keine Möglichkeit bei laufendem Programm das Problem zu lösen. So wurde aus meinem neuen Hauptbass der Ersatzbass und mein 97er MM zum Hauptbass. So etwas habe ich bei keinem anderen Instrument in keiner Preisklasse jemals erlebt. Diese Punkte zeigen, dass die Qualitätskontrolle bei Ernie Ball wohl mal dringend überdacht werden sollte. Bei einem Bass für rund 3100,00€, der hier in der Premiumbass Kategorie geführt wird, dürfen diese Mängel nicht auftreten.
Fazit:
Pluspunkte: Super Bass, super chic, Hammer Sound
Minuspunkte: Nachstellen des Halses und der Bridge notwendig, Kontrolle aller Schrauben auf Festigkeit empfohlen
