Powerful & compact pad controller

The Launchpad Mini MK3 is Novation's compact take on its well-known Launchpad controller, combining maximum portability with effective features. Featuring 64 RGB mini pads and 16 responsive buttons, it aligns seamlessly with Ableton Live, offering a clear and accessible interface for both live performance and spontaneous recording sessions. The layout feels intuitive and uncluttered, allowing ideas to flow naturally without unnecessary complexity getting in the way. This streamlined approach encourages a faster, more fluid workflow, making the process of creating music feel immediate and engaging. New melodies can take shape within seconds, supported by a design that keeps the focus on creativity rather than on navigating functions.

Four modes – flexible control

The four buttons in the top right-hand corner make it easy to switch between modes, each one indicated by a soft green light when active. Session Mode mirrors the corresponding function in Ableton Live, presenting an 8x8 grid of clips organised into tracks as columns and scenes as rows, all clearly mapped across the pads. Navigation through this view remains simple and fluid, supported by the arrow keys positioned on the left side. The remaining three buttons offer flexibility, allowing customised use; Key Mode enables chromatic note input and Drum Mode integrates directly with the Ableton Live Drum Rack. User mode adopts the 8×8 layout of Drum mode and enables full pad customization: MIDI data and visual feedback can be individually defined via external software or custom mappings.

The perfect complement to Ableton Live

The Launchpad Mini MK3 offers seamless compatibility with both Mac and PC, connecting effortlessly to DAWs thanks to its driver-free integration. Beyond simple note input, it provides intuitive control over recording, mixing and editing, supporting a more fluid and hands-on production experience. Its compact size makes it an ideal companion for any Ableton Live setup, slipping easily into a laptop bag without adding bulk. Weighing just 380g, it remains light yet dependable, ready to perform in a wide range of situations. The package includes a licence for Ableton Live Lite and a USB-C cable. The Launchpad Mini MK3 can also be used with iPad and iPhone: In combination with compatible apps, it enables direct control of loops, sounds, and effects – ideal for mobile production and spontaneous performance.

Novation Launchpad Mini MK3

About Novation

The English company Novation has been producing affordable popular synthesizers as well as MIDI controllers and keyboards since its foundation in 1992. It was later acquired by the well-known British audio interface manufacturer Focusrite, but the brand still exists within the parent company. The outstanding design, high-quality workmanship and excellent price-performance ratio of the Novation Launchpads have continued to win them many new users. Novation synthesizers include the 8-voice Polyphone Peak, the analogue mono synthesizer Bass Station II, the MiniNova and the paraphonic analogue synthesizer Circuit Mono Station.

Flexibile customisation

The browser-based editor Novation Components lets users design custom modes for the Launchpad Mini MK3, allowing each pad within the 8x8 grid to be assigned as a note, a MIDI CC, or a programme change message. The pads can be arranged and configured in multiple ways, functioning as triggers, switches or buttons depending on the desired setup. This flexibility supports a more personalised workflow, adapting smoothly to different creative approaches without adding unnecessary complexity. Alongside the standard modes, Ghost Mode introduces a subtle variation by hiding the outer function buttons within a custom mode. By pressing Session, followed by Drums, Keys or User, only the illuminated 8x8 grid remains visible, while the outer controls can be restored at any time with a single press.

Decent for the price
bronemos 06.01.2021
I'll start by saying that the build quality and size of the device are perfect!
The main reason I've decided to purchase a launchpad was to make live looping in Ableton easier.
This allows me to do just that without additional bells and whistles of more expensive models such as larger velocity sensitive pads.
However some limitations are still noticable, biggest ones being inability to arm/disarm tracks in the default session mode and not being able to remove clips or record over them without a tedious set up in Ableton.
Another thing worth mentioning, not directly related to this device, is the lack of fixed length audio clips support (only "launchpad" that supports it is Push 2), so don't expect seamless live instrument looping with this device right out of the box as fixed length clips are not supported.
Overall it's a great piece of hardware that can be modified to do just what you want with some tweaking using third party software and inbuilt user modes.

O
Very happy with this purchase
O.G. 02.07.2020
This is a very powerful device for the price, I highly recommend it! The build quality feels great and I have had no problems so far.

Initially I bought it mostly to launch clips, since I also have a nanoPAD for rhythms. However after finding the "Launchpad95" extension scripts I'm amazed what it can do! I love the sequencer modes, but I'm going to need some practice. ;-)

If you want more native controls or just a bigger control surface, it's probably worth getting the Launchpad X.

TG
Very good starting product
Thanasis Got 15.12.2020
I am new in music production and wanted something both affordable and easy to carry to take to rehearsals. The build quality is amazing for such a small device. The lights are exellent and the included software has evrything someone needs to get started right away. Also its an amazing way for someone to get started on Ableton. Amazingly helpful peace of gear to improve your workflow and help you learn the DAW better, or start learning its basic fanctions. Being a rookie myself i can assure you that this is the right choice for anyone wanting to get started. Aside from the professional use, it is one of the coolest pieces of gear someone can own!

C
Brilliant piece of hardware
Cian_P 01.01.2020
For the price its a brilliant piece of hardware also for the size. Didn't expect it to be so small but still very happy with the functionality. Works seamlessly with Ableton Live. Missing a few features like being able to arm tracks and so on. If you are not on a budget and want the best functionality, I'd recommend the Launchpad X. Overall a brilliant piece of kit!
