Fuzz for my Mesa
DCLA 23.05.2020
i am blessed man - i have 2 great amps.. Mesa DR and a JCM 800.. almost all fuzz pedals sound good on the JCM, but i still, to date, had not found a fuzz pedal that would sound good on my Mesa...until tdy. The Haunt Fuzz arrived and i've been tweaking it since, and am finally satisfied with the sound i am getting. i love the gated fuzz sound and i've dialed in the tone thats music to my ears... i have everything turned all the way up, except the gate - its at 8 oclock, toggle swithches both to the right.. on my Mesa , im on my clean channel, mids scooped, bass at 9 oclock, gain at 9 oclock, presence at 12, trebs at 1 oclock.. sounds perfect.. knarly gated but articulate.. didnt sound as good on the drive channels, and didnt sound as good with the mids up, or the gain up.. this pedal is best on a very clean channel, gain all the way down, with the power amp driving the volume.. the pedal itself is sturdy and knobs have great resistance.. its a bit noisy.. i have a Fortin Zuul on at 10 oclock and they match perfectly.. the catch is the interaction between the gate and fuzz knobs.. fuzz up gate down, and vice versa, i find works best.. if you max the gate, a very cool robotic fuzz with sustain.. my settings could get lost in a mix, hence my mids are very scooped, and might need a small boost when recording, or playing with others. it did not work well with a boost/drive infront, but it did work well with my MXR Univibe which is last in my chain before the amp - gave it a heart beat plus a very subtle clean mid range boost which increased articulation even more..but i disengaged it, because the best sound is the Haunt by itself straight to the amp, and a noise gate. sounds great with delay.. wah somehow boosts the gate function and sounds get even more choppy-er, good for small effect fill-ins.. also my fav in order in terms of pickups was active humbuckers first, then passive humbuckers, then single coil.. overall extremely happy - if you like ur fuzz a bit hairy, and if you like gated fuzz - this is pedal is killer .. Old Noise, you boys rule
