For a reliable AVB network
AVB is short for Audio Video Bridging and refers to an open standard designed for the reliable transmission of synchronised audio and video signals over Ethernet networks. The Presonus SW5E AVB Switch allows real-time data transfer with extremely low latency and accurate synchronisation between all connected devices, which is especially important in live sound and video applications. Because standard network switches are not suitable for use in AVB systems, an intelligent AVB-compatible device is required. The Presonus SW5E fulfils all AVB specifications, monitors network traffic, and ensures that time-critical audio data is given transmission priority; in addition, the device features Power over Ethernet, allowing compatible devices to be supplied with power directly via the network connection.
Clear and self-explanatory
The PreSonus SW5E AVB switch comes with five locking Ethercon ports, four of which support PoE, providing both reliability and flexibility in demanding environments. While the connections operate with standard network cables, the rigours of touring or studio use make sturdier CAT5e or CAT6 cables with protected, locking connectors an even better choice. The network can be easily expanded via an additional link port without PoE, allowing further AVB switches to be integrated. Clear LED indicators on the front panel show port occupancy, network activity, and PoE status at a glance, making it easy to confirm that data is flowing correctly. Beyond this, the SW5E requires very little attention, aside from the occasional firmware update, which can be checked and installed conveniently through the web browser of a connected computer.
For studio, live stage and more
Anyone who has used a digital mixer in recent years is likely to be familiar with the incorporation of network technology into audio applications: As networks become faster, more reliable and cheaper, the transmission of audio data via Ethernet cables can save a lot of time and money, and not just for professionals. The AVB standard brings clear advantages to audio networking, functioning without the need for a router or specialised network knowledge. With the SW5E, Presonus addresses AV and broadcast professionals, studio operators, event organisers, and live bands who require a dependable, high-performance and easy-to-use network solution for audio and video applications. Lockable XLR-style connectors, a sturdy rack-ready chassis, and a built-in power supply make the SW5E well suited for demanding touring and live environments, where reliability and durability are essential.
About Presonus
Presonus is a US company founded in 1995 by Jim Odom and Brian Smith in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The firm designs hardware and software at both professional and more affordable levels for musicians and producers. Presonus first made a splash in the mid-1990s with the DCP8, an eight-channel analogue compressor/limiter/gate with fader and mute automation that could be digitally controlled by MIDI. In the early 2000s followed a series of microphone amplifiers and the first audio interfaces for the then-emerging home studio scene. Today, the company's product range includes audio interfaces, microphone preamps, digital mixing consoles, and studio monitors as well as the established DAW software Studio One.
Compatible with any AVB device
The SW5E works with any AVB-enabled device and integrates smoothly with PreSonus network-capable StudioLive Series III products. In combination with StudioLive Series III mixing consoles, it is well suited for live sound setups, while pairing it with StudioLive Series III rack mixers makes it an effective solution for studio and broadcast applications, offering flexibility across a wide range of professional use cases. Thanks to its PoE function, the SW5E also fully powers up to four PreSonus EarMix 16M units, eliminating the need for personal monitor mixer power supplies. In addition, the SW5E can also be used with AVB-enabled stage boxes, audio interfaces, computers, sound processors – even speakers. Reliability, scalability, and automatic bandwidth management are the key benefits of any AVB network, and the PreSonus SW5E is well-equipped to help all users take advantage of them.
