I have two SM58s as main vocal mics for acoustic gigs with a good quality PA and they are just as good as you would expect. I also have two cheaper mics (Samson and a Thomann T-bone) which are acceptable but need care with EQ.
But having tried the SM48 I would not buy any other budget mic. It's not as warm-sounding as the 58, which I would always choose first, but as a backup mic it's perfect. It's a bit brighter but the same solid Shure quality. If it was the only mic available I would have no qualms about using it whereas the other cheap ones always feel like second best.
And of course it has the professional look, nobody will be thinking, "hmmm cheap mics."
I just wish there was an SM47

Good enough
CliveM 22.11.2014
I needed a spare mic and didn't want to spend the earth so I though 'Shure aren't going to make anything that's rubbish even if it IS a bit cheap' so I gave this one a punt. And it's fine. Obviously it's not as good as the 58 but it's only half the price. So for the money, I'm very pleased with it; it's my '4th' mic so it won't be too challenged!
It's clear, covers a good range of frequencies, doesn't feedback at the drop of a hat, feels solid enough and if I changed the 48 to 58 most people wouldn't notice.
One month later. . .It does lack the punch of the 58 and I need to boost the gain on my desk to get it to match my other mics but it still gives a good sound..

Decent for the price!

It's decent for the price. It maybe ''lacks some power'' but overall it's a great mic for rehearsal or for home studio experimentation.

These arte one step down from the SM58 but they are fantastic. If the SN58 is out of your price reach you can't go wrong with these

Quality and heavy Microphone
L1Qu1D 26.06.2020
For the price the quality of the mic is very high standard, I could not find anything at all bad about the vocal sound being picked up by the interface I have, of course it can improve but for an entry level microphone the SM48-LC is excellent and will serve its purpose of streaming in the future. The vocal range of the mic leaves nothing to be desired for my usage.

Worth every penny

Although 50% cheaper than SM58 it's not any worse (I have few of both).
A bit darker than dearer model, but nothing that could not be fixed with a bit of EQ. Slightly different characteristics that is more subject to personal taste rather than quality. Perfect for backing vocals, quite warm in sound. Totally recommended.

Absolutely adequate
Teutonic Terror 06.09.2020
I use it to sing live backing vocals. I'm not enough of a sound geek to be able to critique the finer points of this mike, but it's solidly constructed and does what it's expected to do. It's a little less expensive than the venerable SM58 and, for my purposes, perfectly adequate.

Not just a poor mans 58!!!
Claydon 23.09.2015
I found one of these lying around at a venue I was engineering in, had never heard of an SM48 before. Used it out of curiosity alongside SM58s for the gig and I preferred the SM48 by a long way, so decided to buy one. I cant believe how much cheaper they are than 58's.. They sound similar to a 58, about the same output level, but many will find the 48 to give a more flattering vocal sound. Great feedback rejection too.

Not so powerful but okay
Barry Junius 11.08.2021
I use it mainly as live recording and streaming performance. They are okay for the price, the build quality is solid. This mic might be suitable for the small venue, but not for the large one surely, as I found a bit hard to get the "body" feel of the tone, and in fact it is sound a bit thin and lack of power especially for the loud type of music.
