BeatBuddy Footswitch
Robert814 31.01.2016
This footswitch is very heavy duty and with rounded corners, so you can jump on it hard, stomp it to bits, or if you are only wearing socks at home the corners won't dig into your feet, although the switches themselves may do. I noted reviewer's warnings about the footswitch, but I have plenty of tools to tighten up anything loose. As it happens, nothing was loose, flopping around, crackling, wonky, or in any way malfunctional. No problems with this footswitch. It states that both switches are momentary action, so if you want to use an alternative, or even build your own... The configuration menu on the Beatbuddy also allows for latching switches, so it appears that anything could be used. If you think it's expensive, buy something else - the Beatbuddy will accept just about any 2 or 3 way footswitch with a (stereo) 3-pole jack connector.Update 12-02-16: After about one week's use I have now encountered the same problem mentioned by another reviewer, namely that the plug in the footswitch pedal does come adrift and pops out slightly, causing weird malfunctions to the switch operation. There are several options to prevent this: An alternative stereo patch lead could be tried which may be a stiffer fit into the socket. (The plug in the Beatbuddy unit does NOT come loose). An alternative socket could be fitted into the Footswitch, but this invalidates the warranty! - but I don't care because I'm an amp and guitar tech with over 40 years experience. I fitted a cheap skeleton type socket similar to 175645. The job was easy as there is no pcb inside - everything is wired direct from switches to socket. A perfect solution for me. (Not if you have difficulty soldering though!). The other option would be to use some Gaffa tape (or similar) to stick the plug firmly into the socket on the back of the footswitch. (Messy!). There don't appear to be many alternative products listed here at the present time.

Not on par with the BeatBuddy

The BB external footswitch connector is rather loose and the cable kept slipping out and I thought there was some bug in the BB itself until I hooked it up with a Digitech FS 3X which have 3 switches.

The Digitech FS 3X can have the same function as the BB external pedal plus you can stop and start BB with an accent sound with the 3rd switch.

Very cool !

I recommend you to buy a Digitech FS 3X instead.

Better quality plus you'll get an extra and usable switch for the same prize.

Expensive

I've been jamming with my Beatbuddy at home now for a long time (love it btw, and if you're a guitarist check it out) and I've got this footswitch on the pedalboard beside it just recently. I have to say the footswitch is quite expensive for what it is. It is very clunky and awkward considering it is only 2 switches and the connection for the jack isn't even that secure.

I've read that there are some generic pedals available that will do the same job (even more funtional in some cases), and I wish I hadn't been a gear snob wanting the official pedal, because in hindsight, this isn't worth the money in my opinion.
