A stage-ready cable

Encased in a robust outer sheath made from soft PVC, this symmetrical microphone cable combines remarkably good flexibility with excellent durability. Its tightly stranded individual wires ensure high transmission quality, while the copper spiral shielding made from 0.1mm individual strands provides no less than 99 per cent coverage. Compared with other Sommer Cable products, such as the Micro-Stage and Cicada, the Stage 22 Highflex features thicker conductors, making it particularly suitable for applications where greater robustness is required. The Micro-Stage, by contrast, is designed for connectors with a small cable entry, while the Cicada is intended for internal rack cabling or clip-on microphones. Shown here in black, the UV-resistant Stage 22 Highflex is also available in a wide range of colours.

Consistent specs

The two inner conductors of the Sommer Cable Stage 22 Highflex consist of 28 individual copper strands, giving them a high degree of flexibility, with a cross-sectional area of 0.22mm² and a diameter of 0.53mm. Each conductor is encased in foamed polyethylene, which produces an overall conductor diameter of 1.3mm. The capacitance in turn is 70 picofarads per metre between conductors and 130 picofarads per metre between conductor and screen, so the cable is well suited to microphone connections. With an overall diameter of 6.4mm, the Stage 22 Highflex has a characteristic impedance of 100 ohms and complies with CPR Euroclass FCA for fire behaviour.

About Sommer Cable

Sommer Cable was founded in 1999 by Rainer Blanck and Friedhelm Sommer, together with a team of dedicated musicians, sound engineers, electronics experts and event technicians led by cable specialist Pascal Miguet. Their aim was to develop cables and connectors for a wide range of applications and standards that combined exceptional quality with ease of use. Production began the same year, followed in 2004 by the development of the Signature Series, with bassist Helmut Hattler becoming its first endorser. The company also expanded internationally, establishing a branch in France in 2005 and entering the US market ten years later. The company now offers a broad range of cables and connectors, available by the metre or in fixed configurations, alongside modular solutions such as the SYSBOXX system. Today, Sommer Cable is one of the leading cable manufacturers, offering a comprehensive portfolio for the audio, video, broadcast, multimedia and hi-fi sectors.

On the boards

The Sommer Cable Stage 22 Highflex is suitable for connecting microphones, instruments, effects units, and mixing desks, with its robust 6.4mm-thick outer sheath proving particularly useful in demanding stage environments. Its high flexibility and resistance to repeated bending make it easy to handle when cables need to be positioned precisely, while also allowing for quick and convenient coiling while packing away. The different colours in which the cable is available can be used to distinguish different lengths or, alternatively, to identify specific functions and instruments at a glance. Its UV-resistant construction also makes the Stage 22 Highflex suitable for outdoor applications.

Great for the money and sounds amazing

This is the second time i have purchased this cable because it is fantastic.

I have recently bought a 100 meter loom of the stuff and it is fantastic. It sounds great and feels good in the hands and doesn't kink up.

I believe you can get this in a Highflex finish as well which i have tried and this is brilliant too. Tonally i can't tell a difference between the two, just a slight difference in the feel when you coil them!

The stage cable is durable and well built and can suit loads of applications. I have used mine in the studio on several projects using a variety of dynamic and condensor microphones. I have also used these cables for a whole pa with dual eqs, a sub, two QSC 12 speakers and several microphones for vocals and drums and it worked a charm.

This stuff is easy to coil and doesn't kink up too badly when your band mates try to help you pack away and do it wrong. I think the Highflex stuff may be a bit better but there is a slight price difference, if you are on a budget then this stuff is great!

I believe it is on par with the Van damme stuff which is over twice the price of this cable.

Combine this with Neutrik gold plated ends. I know these are some of the most expensive ends you can buy but its rare the actual ends break! When your cables get worn out you can just cut the ends off and re-solder them onto some new cable. This works out a lot cheaper in the long run.

Pros:
Good sound
Very affordable
Will teach you soldering skills
Look great in black
On par with the Van Damme stuff

Cons:
Highflex may be better feel wise and may be more durable but is more epxnsive

If this is your first time making cables then get this stuff!
Its great.

Too flexible...

Unfortunately I made a mistake buying this cable as it is too flexible/soft to coil quickly... If you are looking for a cable to use on stage - look for SC-Source. Both of these cables are highflex, but the difference is hugely noteacible.
