Excellent! Pleasantly surprised...
I earn my living performing for the majority in party environments where I am required to mingle among the audience who are often very loud. In this environment I want a crisp, bright, and powerful sound. For 30 years+ I've been playing an iconic Tenor mouthpiece never finding anything to inspire me to change mouthpiece until now. It was pure curiosity that nudged me to try the Shiva IV 8*, and I was very pleasantly surprised to find that this mouthpiece plays very evenly from low-to-high, and particularly surprised that the high notes (to my ear) sound full and present (not at all thin). The tone has a very nice character, interesting and edgy I guess you could say. I am more than happy playing many styles (ballads, jazz, smooth jazz, rock, pop, funk, blues, reggae, chillout etc) on this mouthpiece. The Liberty ligature is very good indeed and affects the tone more than I could have imagined; I like a focused and percussive sound, so I have moved the ligature to the fore-most position and found that carefully tweaking the side allen-head screw fastening pin also gives the mouthpiece noticeably more crispness and projection. All in all I can happily recommend this mouthpiece to those looking for a soloist's mouthpiece and for those looking to cut through the ambient sound at busy venues.
