I don't expect new strings to break at the loop
Love the tone of these strings, and have used them based on tone... but they have manufactiring issues, completely unacceptable at these prices.
I use Thomastic strings on blues acoustic and jazz guitars, violins and mandolins and reccomend them to customers (I've run a luthiery for close to 40 years)... BUT these Medium mandolin strings are flawed. I have a vintage F Gibson and an F Loar for pub sessions. Both have carefully maintained ailpieces with no sharp edges that could cause damage. I have now had 2 G string failures at the loop. This never happened until the latest batches...
Choose them for tone, certainly, but beware... they are not currently as well-made and robust as they used to be.
