U-Trainer Set for Brass

In order to be able to successfully play a brass instrument, there must be a lip tension corresponding to the tube length of the brass instrument. This lip tension requires neck muscles that oppose the flow of air in the mouthpiece boiler in order to induce vibration. To improve these basic muscular conditions, the U-Trainer set has been developed.

Embouchure reinforcement

I use this in the morning and evening regardless of practice to keep my embouchure muscles engaged.

Using the isometric training I close it tightly for 60 seconds with 10 a second pause and repeat 3 times (although I may repeat more). I can feel the corners of my mouth with a satisfying warmth afterward just like when doing lip slurs. Comes in an easy travel pack for when you can't take your instrument with you too.

The dynamic training where you close 30 times before taking a 10 second pause - I would expect you're going to wear down and snap the plastic O-rings quite quickly so I don't use this option often. Although it probably engages some different muscles.

The one issue I have is that all the instructions come printed in German - I had to translate these and it would have been nice to have a translation, even if it's just on the U-trainer website I can't seem to find anything. The website is in English and has some advertising videos in English with some partial instructions, but nobody wrote the instruction card in English - seems a bit of a missed opportunity.

Overall it's a nice set of tools.

Lip trainer!

I first learned about this simulator from an interview with a famous trombonist and decided to try it out.
In general, I liked it and I am satisfied with the sensations.
I use it to develop high register and endurance.

Absolut jedem Blechbläser zu empfehlen

Ich nutze den Trainer jetzt seit vier Monaten.

Vorab sei gesagt, es ersetzt natürlich nicht das Üben auf dem Instrument, aber das dürfte ja klar sein.

Es empfiehlt sich, den Zapfen in der Mitte mit Vaseline oder Zugfett zu behandeln. Das reduziert den Abrieb und mindert leichtes "Knarzen".

Selbst bin ich Musikant in drei Musikvereinen und einer 7er-Besetzung, probe also mindestens 3x die Woche im Ensemble. Blasmusik spiele ich aktiv seit 30 Jahren, zunächst als Tenorist und seit ca. 15 Jahren als Tubist.

Anfangs fiel es sogar mir noch schwer, selbst bei nur 2 Gummiringen eine - wie empfohlene - Trainingseinheit zu absolvieren. Mittlerweile benutze ich den U-Trainer jeden Tag auf der Fahrt zur und von der Arbeit (Angestellter). Verdatterte Blicke, was macht er denn da, sind garantiert.

Was auf jedenfall auch garantiert ist: der Erfolg. Der Ansatz(ring)muskel wird mMn. optimal gestärkt (ich spiele auf sehr großen Mundstücken wie z.B. das JK 2AA) und man "beherrscht" das Mundstück besser. Tonhöhe und auch Pedaltöne "rasten" einfach besser ein.

Ich möchte den U-Trainer nicht mehr missen! Eine absolute Kaufempfehlung von mir.

Fitness für den Ansatz

Vom U-trainer bin ich überzeugt. Leichte und gute Übungen, die auch in der Intensität variiert werden können. Mein Ansatz und vor allem meine Kraft hat sich seit der Nutzung merklich verbessert.
Allerdings sollte man (wie überall), es nicht zu schnell angehen und wirklich erst mit der leichten Stufe anfangen und gemächlich die Intensität erhöhen. Bissel tricky ist es, die O-Ringe in ihrer Position zu ändern.
