A
good but not good enough

The Valeton is a surprisingly sturdy product; I initially thought the hardware was plastic, but it’s actually quite robust for a multi-effects pedal. I was hugely impressed by the sound—it’s remarkable that you can get such high-quality digital tones at such an affordable price, especially with the added ability to tweak them. However, for bass amplification and effects, I find it a bit lacking; it tends to lean too far toward the shrill side.

There is one drawback that I find a real shame—I should have looked into this beforehand. Unfortunately, you can only use one instance of any given effect type in your signal chain. I was trying to create a preset and wanted to add a second reverb (of a different type), but that’s not possible; the same applies to delays—you can’t "stack" them. Also, you can’t assign multiple parameters to a single footswitch; I had assumed this would be possible, as it is on the Kemper and the Helix, but unfortunately, it’s not.

It does have a 'freeze' function, but it works quite differently; apparently, you need two signal chains to achieve a 'freeze and hold' effect, rather than having it contained within a single effect block—unlike, for example, the EHX Freeze pedal.

My conclusion is that if you are looking for a multi-effects pedal but want to keep things very simple—without having to deal with stacking effects or complex parameter settings—this is highly recommended. However, if you want to stack effects and experiment further, you will unfortunately have to look at a higher price range.
